AKC 4-day trial

I gotta say. I'm impressed with myself. lol. Thankfully, after yesterdays workout class on the peanut and stuff, Koji wasn't stiff at all. I stretched him out a bit and he didn't pull away once. Good. :) I was stiff and sore though.

This morning, he did another awesome run. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'll take it. Koji is definitely the jumping master.

We got 6th place and Q today (forgot to check how many dogs got Q's). We also picked up 16 MACH points. The fastest dog got 20, so you can tell how much slower he was. Seriously though, awesome run.

Here's the run: http://youtu.be/RH3T7Fx34Xw
OMG, what's up with my flailing arms as I do my FCs? LOL

He's still not even TRYING to stop on the DW. Someone suggested stopping and putting my hand up, just as a band-aid and a reminder for today. Didn't phase him. It's so frustrating. I mean, if he was trying, great. But he's not. Not at all. Ugh! I also got a slap on the hand. As I picked Koji up, the judge said, "gently please". It doesn't help that Koji usually kinda jumps up at the same time. Heck, yesterday he nailed me in the jaw.

I posted my standard runs, but it's more for my record than anything else. Feel free to watch Sat/Sun if you want to though.

I am so tired. These 4-dayers are killer. Hubby and dogs are out on the floor. Actually, Koji was asleep before I left the grounds. One more day and then we can all rest.

Nice job on the Q! Everything looked great! I have to say that I am jealous of that course. Pretty wide open!

I don't know if you're looking for advice, but as to standard I think maybe you might want to stop entering it. If you are pulling Koji off time and time again for jumping his contacts, it sounds like he doesn't know the criteria. (Of course, I shouldn't talk...Bentley was back to creeping this weekend!!!)

Oh trust me, we won't be entering in standard for awhile. I only entered it because when I turned in the premium, he had been doing great and did great at the ASCA trial. How fast things went downhill. I think the lack of training on a real DW has also taken its toll. One more day tomorrow, and yup, no more Standard.

And I also keep doing it because I paid for it!!! LOL.

I definitely get it!

Good luck tomorrow!!!

I'll admit. I just don't have the heart to scratch him. lol. Especially with one day. I'll probably work a bit with him tonight, to remind him what he's supposed to do. I am also going to talk to the judge tomorrow. Since that one asked me if I was going to go on, I'm thinking oh, maybe that's something I can do. So I'm going to ask her/him if he blows his contacts, I put him in a sit (pretty fast), can I then just move on? I have seen people do it, but I never know if I'm going to get called off or what, so I'd rather ask.

That way, I will end on a good note tomorrow. And maybe it'll help him remember he's supposed to stop and wait at the bottom of the contacts. We'll see. I probably should have asked about it on Saturday. Sigh.

OMG. Today's course was crazy, but fun. Well, fun for my 16" velcro dog. Check this course map out. I thought it looked tight on paper, it was tight in real life. The 22+ dog ppl were complaining. Very few dogs larger than 16 Q'd. Lots of circles, but lots of off-courses. This is when I love my velcroey dog. :) We didn't Q because Koji popped his weaves. I'm thinking either because of the uneven ground (other dogs were having issues too) or he was tired. He did great otherwise.

Standard. Well, it was overall fun too, but yup, walked off again. No more standard for awhile. Need to proof it more more more.

I had a great 4-days. I am tired as heck. Koji is out cold right now. Thankfully, I was smart enough to take tomorrow off (from work) too. Koji got 3 JWW Q's (3 more and he gets his MXJ already, woohoo, my jumping boy). And he got 45 more MACH points. I know I'll have 5,000 points and no QQ's. lol.

I may sign up for one day of an ASCA trial later this month to test his DW again and do any show-n-go's in the area. He's so high when we run, he pays me no heed. I even tried to get his attention during one run by calling his name out (which in agility speak means look at me) and he didn't even look a bit.

Koji's mat work has been awesome and it's helped him focus so much more. Not enough for the dang DW, but we're progressing, so that's good. His JWW runs were out of this world. Tomorrow, I'll upload his 4th place run. :)

Thanks for listening to me babble about this weekend. Honestly, I was so happy and proud of his JWW runs. I don't think I have ever run better.

I love that course! Looks like so much fun! I would love to see your video of that one.

And I'm glad to hear that the mat work is making a difference. I really had a tough time this weekend because Bentley was running before Lexi in a lot of runs and that tends to put her over the top excitement-wise.

So happy that you're meshing as a team (even if it's only in JWW!) How many runs did you have over the past 4 days? Enjoy your day off!

Great job Cheryl with Kojii!!!What I don't understand though in one breath you say no more Standard and in the next one you say you may do an ASCA trial. The show and go'sI think is great but to trial and test the DW is crazy.

Sharon, I believe the reason she's going to ASCA with Koji is because ASCA allows training in the ring so she can train the DW behavior in a trial environment. Sure, she'll DQ but I can understand what she's doing. I'm not sure how well a show-n-go mimics a trial environment since people attending show-n-gos know it's not a trial.

I've had trainers suggest it to me also when I was having trouble with Edan's A-Frame contact. Thankfully the introduction of rubberized contacts corrected the problems we were having with Edan's A-Frame. (Basically he understood what he needed to do but couldn't control his decent on the older sanded a-frame.)
