AKC vs WRCL Rally

I have done both AKC and WCRL Rally. I find WCRL more challenging than AKC rally. The challenge comes in when certain signs show up. WCLR has some signs in their lower levels that don't show up in AKC until their higher levels. Both are fun though.

As for the number of signs, don't let it overwhelm you. The signs are broken down by level so you only have to really focus on the signs for the level you are currently working on. For instance, when starting with AKC, just focus on getting the Novice signs right. By the time you are ready for Intermediate, you'll be a pro at the Novice signs. You also don't have to commit them all to memory. Most folks who do rally have a notebook, cards or app that allow us to review the stations (signs) when we need a refresher.

As for an app, I have Android and use the app AKC Rally Genius.

Thanks. I will look for AKC Rally Genius! With the sign download I could not find the division of where the Novice signs end. Is there a list somewhere?

for the AKC link that I posted earlier- it says on slide 44 that all the signs after that can only be used in Intermediate or higher. All the signs also have letters in the top right corner- if all the letters are there- N, I, A, X, M- then that sign can be used in novice (all the classes really but only those signs will be in Novice).

As Calliesmom said, the levels are listed in the upper right corner of the signs.
N = Novice
I = Intermediate
A = Advanced
X = Excellent
M = Master

The only signs that can be used in Novice level are those with an N in the upper right corner. Anything marked with an N and an I can be used on Intermediate courses. Anything with N, I and A on Advanced and so on. So, if you are just starting, focus only on the signs with an N on them and work on the others once you master the N (Novice) signs. The idea being, by the time you start working on the Intermediate (I) signs, you know, even if you haven't perfected, the Novice signs.

Hope that helps.

A lot of the signs are things I already practice with Beau but some of them are just so darn confusing. Beau is doing really well at heeling, spins, around, halt but I am so confused by some. Also, he does wonderfully with treats in my hand (either hand) but fading them is really difficult. Also, are there "official" hand signals?
