I have not tried with turkey in the middle of agility yet
I regularly place their bowl with food/ training treats on the floor when we work. I have better results with Leo as Che has huge history of selfreinforcement from countersurfing. I would not be able to leave the room with Che but can do with Leo.
OTOH there is Dodson -Yerkes? law of arousal that states if the reward is so great, much larger than challenge, it becomes huge distraction in itself. So dog is likely to loose its mind from seeing entire turkey as from seeing small pile of turkey treats. That is how we were taught to change a habitat in your living room. i.e. you still train in your living room but distraction present is so huge it might be as well totally new place for the dog.
