Another night nursing the old girl

Well she was telling Kismet off this morning, so I guess she's feeling better. It's such a roller coaster.

I have to go back interstate soon to finish tying up my brother's affairs and holding the funeral we didn't have last year. I had hoped to get a pet sitter but my house insurance claim (from back in Jan) means the house is still a construction zone and stuff is still packed away. I wouldn't leave her at someone else's house. I think a 2 day drive down will be too much for her health - she struggled with the previous trips. I do hope to have the courtyard/cat run finished in time so the dogs can finally go out to toilet without me, so that will be good for same day return trips (urgh, the cost).

I struggle with the not feeling right leaving Gavin. I mean, last time I left for a week he almost died :(
and I worry that having a pet sitter won't work well because, well, Gavin doesn't seem particular needy to me but I am used to it all. He just stands in front of the door and I know he wants to go pee. I know how to carry him outside and set him down, stabilize his rear end, and let him pee real quick and then get him back inside all within a minute. or how he circles and circles and circles until I am dizzy before he poops. or how he waits for me at mealtime to feed him and put his recyclable food container in the little blue bin for him to go get. He is just so used to have someone looking after him who loves him and all his needs and quirks.

might I add, that Gavin woke me to go pee at midnight last night. happens about once every month or 2.
the tricky part is HOW he wakes me.
He stands by my bed (it's a tall bed, so we can't see each other and he can't jump up there anymore).
Yes, he stands by my bed. and he softly whines. he has never barked for attention, just whines. I have no idea how long he does this before I wake up, but I have a feeling it is quite a while. I only remember one whine, and it was pretty darn soft. I just knew what it meant and got up.

Throughout the night he is moving from the bedroom to living room and back pretty regularly, maybe once an hour or so.
His being awake and moving isn't the same.

How do you explain that to a pet sitter?

And yes, I am well trained and proud of it!

I am glad to hear she is doing better.

I’m like Cindy - we are so used to Shelby’s little quirks, that I am sure would drive the average person nuts. Plus I have a hard time trusting anyone other than us to make sure she gets her medications and is given them correctly. Shelby is such a master manipulator I couldn’t imagine what she would get away with if we were not here.

after so many years together, it's such a deep symbiotic relationship. everything is non-verbal, obviously, so much more observational.
and Shelby wouldn't want anyone else to manipulate, just you.

How is Tully doing?

So far not too bad. Usually by Friday she's very sick and I'm on the couch, but knock on wood so far her stool is only slightly soft and she's eating dirt but she is still alert. I've been giving her antibiotics this week as an experiment, and it seems to be helping. If we make it through tomorrow (she has to come to Kismet's comps) then I know she has SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) and I'll need to convince the specialist she needs Tylan, on top of the steroids and chemo. That little girl is like a walking medicine cabinet!

Six more days and she's 15yrs old.
