Anyone else have limping problems?

Scout (age 11) has a noticeable limp on his right leg when he walks; he seems to not be putting his weight on it. He hesitates jumping in the car or walking up steps. When he gets up from napping he takes a long time to get his balance. The limp is very noticeable upon waking, but gets less noticeable with use.

Once or twice a year he will lick his right foot obsessively until it is pink, But it is the same foot as he is limping on now.

I am wondering if any other Sheltie owners have unexplained lameness limping problems.

I have an 11 year old female Sheltie is having the same exact problems you have described which is how I found this site. I see your discussion was from 2009... did you ever find out the cause/solution? I assume since its been 6 years since your post that Scout has since passed, my condolences to you. any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I am sol sorry about Scout. Lucky and Lil' Lady will limp, but not often. They
are almost 14 and 10. They act crazy in the back yard and twist something at
their age, that night they are fine.

I just changed their food to help everything too. I found a great food for them
and I think it just might do the trick. This week I am taking Lil' Lady to the vet
and if I don't like the outcome of her thyroid med and tests, I am changing
vets also.

Our beloved shelties worry us to no end. Hope you get some answers.

Prayers and good thoughts.
