Anyone have experience with Healthy mouth?

After a recent wellness visit with the vet she discovered that my male Angus has some pretty big plaque/calcus build up on his backmost molar. I brush their teeth regularly -- much to their protest but they love the toothpaste taste- but must have missed the molar. Actuallly, both dogs have plaque build up on their back teeth. I told the vet I would try to get it off with a sonic tools and she recommended Healthy Mouth that you put in the water to try to soften it before I attempt it. I have read a lot of dogs won't drink the water after it is added and it is expensive. Anyone have any experience with it?? I dread the vet bill if I can't remove it..

Not that brand, but we do use Oxyfresh in our water for the dogs and cats. Ann uses a different product that worked successfully for her but I did not see any benefit from it in a year and switched back. I'm of the opinion that you just have to try stuff... some will work for you; some won't. I wonder if it is due to the dogs individual PH levels in their mouths or something like that. I also use a sonic scaler, Black Sheep Organics toothpaste which the dogs LOVE!, and all sorts of dental chews they receive as treats. At this years check up, I expected Brodie to get recommended for a dental cuz he was close last fall but his teeth are now amazingly clean... we totally quit the bully stick chews a year ago and I wonder if they were part of his issue as he was obsessed and felt he needed one nightly. Deacon's teeth, which were amazing, are now showing signs of needing work... I am torn on dentals... should I do now and be done? Such a hard issue when they need to be sedated...

I'm not familiar with Healthy Mouth but Sandy is right, I use Oxydent Dental Care Solution. I used Oxyfresh for years but as a spray in the mouth, not in the water and it is also a really good brand you can't go wrong with. Misty is my only dog who hasn't needed a dental or teeth pulled and my vet says her teeth are terrific. A relief, since all my others are partially toothless! For years I used ProDen PlaqueOff for them and it clearly didn't work. Since I started using the water additive, their remaining teeth are much better.

On Ann's recommendation for Oxydent I am on my first bottle for Benny and I am seeing results without brushing! He had the dark line of plaque on his canines and after a few weeks I just knocked it off with my finger nail! Now we see if it stays off. Being raw fed he gets bones every day so the back teeth aren't a problem for him, but the fronts were bad. He hates brushing teeth so this is a life and money saver.

Thanks all for the recommendation I will look into oxyfresh-- Healthy mouth is 60+ $ per bottle and if the dogs don't like it I will have to sell pencils on the street to pay back the bill. Hmmm I guess I could also play my guitar on the street corner and have people pay me to stop!
