Anyone own a carpet cleaner?

Thanks for the input, everyone! While (ahem) my girls ARE housetrained, illnesses do happen. I have a living room, hallway and one small room that will need regular cleaning it looks like. Glad to know others have had good experiences with owning one.

With two kids and Cleo this one looks fantastic! We have an older carpet cleaner that just doesn't do the job. I need to start saving. Can either you or Sheep tell me any more about this? I have wall to wall carpet and it is a light beige color. I need something because you can see the high traffic area in my house where Cleo and the kids are let in and out. :o
Use the prespray on stains it helps a lot. Also read the instructions. I cannot remember but you pull the trigger either pushing or pulling and it saves on juice and works as well or better. Hot water when you fill the tank. Not much else to say.

Oh wait it also does furniture and cars pretty well. Don't do the car then roll the windows up LOL

I have this Hoover Carpet Cleaner and love it. It's so easy to use and has a separate compartment for the detergent or pet stain remover. The large tank is for hot water, so you can easily rinse with the flick of a knob. This model comes with a special pet hair brush for upholstery. It weighs only 18 pounds so it's a lot easier to take up and downstairs than my old Bissell was.

I had a Bissell Spot Bot, but as good a that was, the sucky thing was, it would leave "spots" around my house. Basically, the carpet was dirty and it had clean circles. It was super handy, easy, easy to carry around, and worked great.

When Miko got older and basically pooped everywhere in the house, I bought the Hoover MaxExtract from Costco (looks like they're not selling it anymore). Also, I had used my Aunt's one at an apartment and they thought I had it professionally cleaned because of how it looked when I moved out 15 months later (I'm just glad it was clean because Miko had gross poop too much). And I used mine at my last apt and they never said anything about the carpet (again, Miko, ew, gross - my poor old man).

Anyhow, those are my suggestions. Both worked well, they were pretty easy. The Spot Bot was easier just because it's smaller, but obviously, the Hoover could do the whole house. :) Which reminds me. I want to clean the carpets at my house. Wonder how long it'll take to dry in 68-70 degrees without the windows open. Hmmm.....

I have the Bissell "Pro-Heat" It works very well. I think it was about $200 when I bought it at Target a few years ago.

With 3 Shelties stuff happens, yes but...my gosh, I'd just paid to have my carpets cleaned last month, and since then we've had 3 urine accidents, two vomits, and one diarrhea. WHY do they ALWAYS pick the carpet??!! There's a nice washable vinyl floor nearby, but no.

Anyway I'm seriously considering buying a carpet cleaner to clean deeper than just the spot treatment with enzyme cleaner. Anyone out there have such an apparatus? I'm not gonna shell out $500 but there is a Bissell that looks decent on sale for about $200 that sounds OK.....

Aha! Thanks, this is the one I am looking at. Although I did read that with pet stains you DON"T want to use hot water, it will set the stain. Anyway it is a reasonable price and has good reviews. Thanks for the input! :smile2:

We kept a sponge and bottle of Bissell cleaner handy for spills - with the grandkids and dogs it was inevitable. Vinegar first and then the cleaner. A water/peroxide mix works well for stains. A water/lemon juice combination takes out smells.
