Anyone well versed on AKC GrCH?

We just started working on my dogs Grand CH and he currently has 8 points (2 4pt majors). Those points came from receiving Select Dog and he received the green/white ribbons.

My question if about the second show we attended at the end of July where he was BOB the 1st day and BOS the 2nd. Does the fact that the dog goes BOB automatically give select points toward the grand championship? He wasn't given the green/white select ribbon along w/the BOB or BOS ribbons but at the previous show when he only received SD I don't remember the BOB dog getting a green select ribbon but I do know they got select points. I've checked AKC's site (that's how I know the BOB dog at the 1st show got select points) and they are torturing me and only have results posted up to July 24....killing me! LOL :rolleyes2:

I've read the AKC page about calculating GrCH points and I don't remember...but then again my eyes may have glazed over at some point and I missed the info I'm asking about!

Thanks

Tami

It looks like if a CH wins BOB they automaticly get GCH points. But my question is this what exactly is Select dog and Bitch and how is it awarded. I don't get that.

From what I understand, the SD or SB is basically if the judge feels the dog/bitch deserves something but it's not BOB or BOS. It kind of reminds me of an Award of Merit at the specialties.

In my dogs case a friends dog was BOB and obviously a bitch had to go BOS. If the judge decides they have another deserving dog they can give SD now.

I know in talking to several friends who are judges they say there have been times when they have say 2 really nice bitches and in the breed class. Once 1 is placed as BOB the other, which may be nicer than any of the dogs in the class, is automatically out of the running. This would allow them to acknowledge the 2nd bitch by giving it Select Bitch. I've seen several classes where SD/SB wasn't given out so it's not automatic to anyone and totally at the judges discretion.

Best of Breed = points for all the dogs competing (class dogs, bitches & specials)
Best of Opposite = n-1, so points for all the dogs competing, minus one
Select Bitch = points for all the bitch entry (class and specials)
Select Dog = points for all the dog entry (class and specials)

Then the points you get are based on the current point schedule.

Judges should not be awarding Select to the BOB and BOS dog, but we are seeing it happen.

Thanks for the help. AKC finally got up to 7/31 updated and it shows another 3 point major so that must have been from his BOB on Saturday. I think Sunday will be another 3 points so he'll have 14 of the 25 points he needs :) woohoo
