Are you competitive?

You would think there is an intermediate level, but there's not. I remember when I first did CPE, I signed up for Level 1 (Koji couldn't do the teeter yet). But my gawd, everything was sooo easy. Ditto for AKC Novice. But that's only because I had a year of NADAC under my belt by that point. So, when I start USDAA, damn, I'm going to look GOOD!!!! (I probably won't do USDAA until I get my AKC MACH).

So, just think. One day, you can do novice in another venue and be an instant pro....because you'll already have experience.

well, we won't be all that experienced when we start our second venue. The club that had the NADAC trial last weekend has their next trial in Feb. My club will have our AKC agility trial the weekend after that so by the time that we get to Feb- we'll only have more practice under our belt- not a lot more ring time.
Cran did the time to beat demo at our trial in March this year- does that mean that NADAC is our second venue?:lol:

not going to be doing USDAA- they would have Cran jumping some ridiculous height. Dixie would still be at 16 though.
don't think that there is any CPE around here- haven't heard anyone I know talking about it.
only other choice 'locally' would be ASCA....

If you put him in Performance, he would jump 16". If your dogs are over 16" tall, but under 21", then they would jump 16" in performance. Just FYI.

I guess we're taking it slow- a few people seemed surprised when I told them that the pups would be 2 at the end of the month. is that too early?
I know that there are people that train everything before they start competing in Novice- somehow that doesn't seem right to me. we are novices and it shows. It was funny- some people that compete in AKC came to this trial and competed in Novice- obviously they did way better than us:wink2: It seems like there should be some intermediate level for people who already know what they are doing:winkgrin:

There is. It's called Novice B. In AKC, if a handler has ever put an agility title on a dog, then they have to enter Novice B. Novice A is only for handlers and dogs that have never earned a title.

I meant between venues- like an AKC MACH dog starting in Novice in NADAC or vice versa :wink2:

I'm only competitive against one other dog and that's Trax's brother. Not because I want to be better than them, but because they have more Q's than we have at this point and I just want to be at the same place.

As for competitive against other dogs, I'm not really competitive but it does feel really good when I see that Trax's time was faster than one of the world team dogs or someone who went to Nationals, etc. Can't say that doesn't make me proud, but I don't set out to be faster or better than them.

Also, within Novice A/B, you still run the same course. You wouldn't really be starting at an "intermediate" level in novice B.

Yikes, my next dog will be Nov B. Hopefully, I'll be more experienced by then myself. Hehehe.
