I really am appalled that a previous poster on this thread has referred to what I feed my dogs as "junk" - and I resent any implication that I do anything other than what is best for my dogs. "Natural Balance" is not "junk" and my dogs thrive on it. I think it is about time that someone needs to look to the validity of their own preconceived notions.
While you might be doing what you think is best for your dogs, and I in no way doubt that, the food is just that -- junk. I will list the reasons why it qualifies as that:
1. Meat isn't the in the majority of their foods as the first ingredient.
2. It's not ethoxyquin-free. Therefor it contains something the FDA has labeled as a pesticide and banned in all human food.
3. It's manufactured by Diamond and was recalled for Melamine and Aflatoxin and now Salmonella.
4. Their canned food was recalled in 2007 after it was discovered to be caught up in a botulism outbreak -- luckily, no pets reported ill.
5. They lie in claiming they test every batch for Salmonella, along with other things, since it wasn't caught from October-Present. They're clearly NOT testing their food.
6. They don't state where any of their animal products come from therefor you have no proof it isn't a 4D (down, dying, diseased, or dead animal) in your food. You do realize, the mad cow for example, ends up being sold to the pet food companies and without assurance of where their ingredients come from, you can't be assured you're not feeding 4D or euthanized pets/zoo animals.
Those are the few I can think of off the top of my head. I've researched this food enough to know it's not good quality. there are quality kibbles out there like Acana and Fromm that give you much more detail about their ingredients.
