Attaching a thumbnail....

Forums Celebrity
I cannot seem to attach a thumbnail picture from a URL. I can only upload it from my PC.

Never had this problem before but this cropped up a couple of months ago. Just never got around to reporting it. Anybody else having this problem?

I most likely updated a setting around that time to prevent it.

Allowing url direct images opens up a pathway for potential hackers, so disallowing it helps keep the forum protected. You can still post a link to the photo itself.

That's the part that is not working.

When I click on the "paper clip" I have the choice of "upload from computer" or "upload from url"

I can upload from my compuer no problem. But I tried to attach a picture link from my CP in Sheltie Forums, and nothing happened. Then I tried the same from Photobucket.

That is correct, the "upload from url" option has been disabled.

It doesn't matter that the url is the forums itself, any and all url linking is not permitted.

I thought this feature seemed to be working again after this last posting, but now appears to be disabled again.

If posting a thumbnail from a url is disabled, why is it still an option on the attachment icon?

It's not a big deal, but sometimes I can find a picture faster on one of my photo websites then my "out of control" computer photo drive!

That may be just a limitation of the software. I'll have to dig deep to see if that is an option to turn off that display feature.

Regardless, you can still copy/paste a web address into a post, it will just not display the actual image within the post, only the text link.

Thumbnails are just so much more convenient for those viewing the post for a quick view. People tend to respond to thumbnails because you can preview what you are about to see. Great if you want some basic feedback on something. Obviously not intended to display a new albulm. If there is a way you can safely re-connect that would be good!

You can do that, but you will have to download the image from the outside website yourself & save it to your own computer. You can then upload it to your own images folder here.

Having a thumbnail image display (that is being generated from an outside website) can be a resource hog & lead to security issues within the website. I cannot allow that.
