Let's get some sheltie chatting going! I'm in a Facebook sheltie group and there was recently a thread on what tricks your sheltie can do... So do tell me, what things can your puppers do? Here's some of what mine can do; I am sure I will miss something...

Both of ours sneeze if you ask them if they have a cold. Both will ‘paws up’ on our forearms and then ‘pray’. Brodie will do his version of a cockle-doodle-doo (we have chickens - no rooster) if you ask what a rooster says. Brodie goes to our powder room and cries when he needs to potty (self taught) while Deacon comes and gets us to tell us Brodie needs to potty since Brodie doesn't bark for potty. My youngest son taught Brodie to ‘pet’ our kitties.

Deacon tells time... not really, but he KNOWS it is 6 pm and dinner time and will not let you just blow that off. Both know it is 10am and salmon jerky treat time. I can sit on the floor and both will come up and 'pounce' on my back if I ignore them as if to say "hey, didn't you hear us? It's SALMON time!".

They both do the normal stuff of spin (always to the right), sit pretty, Brodie rolls over. We've been practicing sit and stay when someone comes to the door and yup, I use those salmon jerky treats for it. One day, I went out to get the mail, came in through the basement and got sidetracked, actually forgot about them. Was shocked to see them still sitting at the front door in a stay waiting for their treat. We have to get back to that though because since I forgot them, now they sometimes get up to check and see if I am coming back.

Brodie has a floor hockey stick (hubby is from Newfoundland, was on skates from age 3 up to him breaking his ankle 2 years ago - major hockey fan). If hubby is watching any sport on TV and gets excited, Brodie retrieves the hockey stick, brings it to hubby, then gets a ball - I think he gets jealous hubby is 'playing games' without him. Speaking of TV, Brodie loves to watch it.

Deacon sings, doesn't take much to get him going, throws his head back and howls type of singing and for some reason the word Peek-a-Boo can really get him going! Brodie sings as well, but he's got this shrill, high pitched squeal no one enjoys. Deacon is more of a tenor.

We taught both to use a bell and they can push the 'that was easy' Staples button, but we hide both cuz it's annoying and gets them too excited.

Brodie has 2 trick dog titles, Deacon just 1.

What can your crew do?

Wow you have genius Shelties for sure what fun. Darn they are smart dogs-- ours tell time as well. They come and get us when they want to go outside but with our cat gone the doggy door is open- still they would prefer to have us let them out?? They know the difference between when I get the soda stream water bottle out of the refrig in order to take a drink and when I take it out to fill it-- that is a criminal offense in my house that needs lots of Sheltie talk. They know one of our friends as "the treat lady" and if we say the words they are at the door barking. They know when I am going to get out the toothpaste and finger brush and they get in line- they they don't like the actual brushing they love the toothpaste. I have a sonic trainer and sometimes when I vacuum and the barking is too much I pick it up off my desk and they quite barking, if I put it back they start again. They find every boo boo on my arms or legs and take care of it for me and one of ours used to groom the cat-- till the cat was no longer. I love the breed and their personalities. Sandy you have a real bunch of characters for sure- but they all are in their own way....

So I hang my head in shame here. Really have concentrated on Nosework and not trick training, although I think that's a great pursuit! I really should try something with Juno since she is wicked smart and needs a job.
I will say, years ago, Asta astounded me when our bunny got out of his pen outside and I could not find him anywhere! Asta saw me frantically looking, and I finally said to her "Where's the bunny?" and darned if she didn't take off for a corner of the yard and point out that he was behind the wheelbarrow!!! I tried "Where is...?" on her with a few other things like Dad. She absolutely knew what "Where is" meant.

I'm in the hanging-head department with Sharon. Mine make up their own tricks, I can't take credit for any of them! Sprite can honestly tell time by the number of times the clock chimes and lets us know in no uncertain terms when she thinks it's time for any of the things she's entitled to, whether meals, play or bedtime. Misty gives nose kisses on command, but only to me. She can also catch frisbees in mid air. All the rest of them are convinced we're lucky to have them without any extradordinary behaviors LOL. I do sometimes think I should make more of an effort teaching them cool things like Sandy's dogs but always when it's time to groom or bathe them!
