Bacca doesn't seem need his Mommy!?

Indy and Meeko are getting the deed done tomorrow. How long is the recovery? I'm going away on the 30th and hope they are okay before I go.

Sadie was acting like her old self within 48 hours of surgery so I'd think it would be even easier for males.

I love how they tell you to 'keep them calm.' Define calm! She was done in the winter so I was told to keep her from jumping and to keep it clean. Yeah right! I ended up getting her a t-shirt to keep her belly clean and we did our best to keep her from jumping around

Bacca is 9 months old, still un-neuteured (was waiting for that ball to drop! :smile2:)

He used to be a huge suck and every I went, he was glued next to me. When I was working on my computer, he was sleeping at my feet.

In the last couple of weeks, he's discovered that the couch is a much better place to sleep than being close to Mom.

Should I be worried that I'm losing my bond with him? I'm particularly worried about this because I'm close to bringing home no. 2 - and if they bond together instead of with me, then I'm toast.

Advice anyone?

I have had the same problem with my male 9 month old sheltie since day one. Since we brought him home, he has latched on to our female husky. At first it was more like she was his mom but now he looks to her as if she has to give all approval for anything he does. I call him, he looks at her to see if she's going to go. If she does, he follows, if not he hesitates for a minute and then eventually comes to me. I have tried giving him undivided attention by walking him by himself, playing ball with him, taking him to the park to play fetch, petting just him when I get home from work. He's fine when we are out playing ball but if our husky is around, he'd rather be with her over me. If she is not in his view, he panics and runs off to find her. It's pretty annoying actually. The husky could care less about him. Half the time he annoys her so she growls at him. The growls do not even phase him. We are getting a male German Shepherd puppy in a few months. We are hoping he will find interest in the puppy since he will be the one to play with our Sheltie more often. I'm just hoping he doesn't become attached to the GS now over me. So, I'm lost just as much as you are except this has been going on since day one for me.

Hmmmm....sounds like pup needs to remember who leads the pack. Apparently he thinks its Husky Mom and not Human Mom!

A suggestion: Make sure you get time away with your Sheltie pup - just the two of you. Try to make it both a fun and a training exercise. Some of the training should include getting his attention on YOU, when you say so. This would be the "Look" exercise. Hold a treat in your hand away from your body, show pup the treat. Bring the treat up close to your eye, saying "Pup Name, Look!" Make sure your voice is excited. If he looks at you, give him the treat. Repeat as often as you need to. Gradually extend the length of time pup has to look you in the eye before you give him the treat. The idea is total focus on YOU.

There are other training tips, of course, but this one seemed obvious.

As for Bacca, I've decided that he's just being a teenager - and I think the testosterone is starting to kick in. So, snip-snip after Xmas!
