I've never heard of that but a simple (and cheap) alternative is to teach a dog to go to a mat and then proof the dog.

Training is a "go to [mat] place" but with the remote you can treat and keep treating at a distance (say the door). Beau's place is fairly far from the door.
I was also thinking it might be good for some of his other behaviors to fade being basically on top of him to control (eg. outside). Just wondering. It was invented by Sophia Yin.

I'm sure it would work in all kinds of situations but as someone else had mentioned you need to be able to stop it before the dog flips their switch so to speak...before they reach the point where they don't hear you at all lol. What has worked immensely with Piper is having a really really good recall. It's something we've worked on a lot and I think improves as the dog ages. It doesn't help that I have 2 dogs now (definitely worse lol) but I can get Piper to come to me after he starts barking and running to the fence and I then put him in a stay. The other dog is a whole other story...
Yes, I know I need to catch him BEFORE he goes nuts. I was just thinking that if I can catch him and get him in a sit-stay, then if the treat thingy is near him, I can back away a few inches/a foot at a time slowly with time. Maybe that way increase my distance once he is calm to maintain a calm. Don't know but kind of what I do with PECS with kids--first third person to hand-over-hand place, then back away to elbow prompt, then back out further to light tough prompt, etc. LOL I guess I am thinking too hard. Sigh. My kids are so much easier (not really but while I am on vacation it sure feels that way)

I know there have been several threads on this in the past and I gave instructions on training for dogs that are already barking at visitors. I'm too unwell to look myself, but they should be in the behaviour or training section.
