Barking while looking out windows.

play games with him at home- "Here the leash/ haltie is coming , what fun we are going to have" without actually leaving. Get out super treats, treat for coming, touching, letting you put it on him, tug with him or throw a ball while in haltie, feed his meals etc. Make it fun.
Pick him up and move him out of the room in the meantime

Thanks. I will try. He just hates the thing!!! but you are right he is very food motivated. Its amazing what I have accomplished with very little effort.

I have the same problems. Bentley never starts the barking, but our house is right in the middle of bark central :rolleyes2: There are 4 (constantly) barking dogs whose yards touch ours.

Once Bentley hears them, it's all over.

I remove him once he starts barking, but now he knows that Barking = Mommy comes to get me and we go away...so he runs away. He only does it when barking. So I keep treats near me and he will go away from the door to get a treat, but he goes right back.

Basically, I say this to tell you that I have not yet found the answer. I just normally pick Bentley up (after I chase him a bit..fun) and we go into another room and I hold him until he relaxes.

Its funny backyard barking dogs not a problem.:confused2: The neighbor across the street drives him nuts. With his reviving motorcycles driving up and down the street and his puppy running after him barking his brains out. You know what?? I feel like barking at him too.

It takes time and patience, but I think you're approach is basicly good.

I've got a similar problem in that my backyard faces onto to open field that people use to walk their dogs - mostly off-leash.

Indy used to go crazy everytime a dog walked by. After many months of "training", I've managed to get him to a dull roar.

I don't use treats, but I do use verbal and physical commands of "ah-ah" (Indy knows that a pointed finger at him mean he is bad). Then when he stops, I give him tons of hugs and praise.,

It's not perfect, but we are getting better. Now when a dog walks by he seems to stop himself before he goes into frenzy mode. Of course, it means, that I have to be on hand to remind him. Baby steps!

Yes poor you with walkers at your back fence. Which dog would not go crazy?? Good for you and all your effort.
Funny he seems better with the blinds open??? I just have to keep on him 24/7. Maverick almost seems mute to me since getting Ryder.
