Barking!!

Hi Cheyenne!

My name is Marlie and I'm 3 years old. My family adopted me from another family when I was only 1 1/2. I'm a real big brat! I used to bark at the vacuum but my mom heard about the penny can trick and it worked! Now I just bark at a few things like the ceiling fan in my mom and dad's room, I think that I need to catch it so they can't ever use it!! BOL!! I bark like a mad woman when they let me out back in the fenced area of our yard, I need to let everyone know that I'm coming out and they better be gone!! And I still bark at the dustbuster and about give my mom a heart attack everytime she uses it because I won't be anywhere around and here I come when she can't see me!! It's so much fun to make her jump out of her skin!! I also bark at the boys in the morning when they are getting on the school bus - I need to protect them from the wild things that are out there that I can't see!! I bark at the doorbell whether it be the real one at our house or the ones on TV! ha, that drives my mom crazy too!! So yeah, we all like to bark about something, we are just doing our jobs!! Nice to talk with you! By the way, are you on Dogster or myspace? Lots of us are so look for us if you are!! Bark at you later!!

Marlie

Hi! Cheyenne, My name is Aonghus (it's pronounced Angus but mom likes the Gaelic spelling) and I am four months old now. My mommy got me from a local rescue when I was just 7 weeks old. Believe me, I HAVE to bark at things just to keep my 'sheep' (my mommy and my two human sisters) from all the bad things in the big world. They just don't realize how dangerous the vacuum cleaner is or the wind or the inside of the car when we get ready to go on a trip! They tried shaking a can of pennies at me but I just thought is was something new to protect them from, and I agree, the shower is down right EVIL! Best of luck training your parents.

OH, my bad, I didn't realize there were other dudes in here!. I'm Indy, and I'm not sure what everyone is talking about, I didn't hear any barking.....and what's Aonghus mumbling about SPEAK UP young man, can't hear you! Really, children these days! Why I remember when I was your age a fellow would speak up and tell it like it is, none of this mush-mouth whispering and sneaking around. HUH. And I'm telling you, when I was out on the porch I'd be a-singing, I'm telling you I had some BREATH CONTROL with the vibrato on the INHALE and the EXHALE for some serious SINGING to the moon dudes!

Well, I'm going to mosey on over here and lie down on the rug in front of the patio door. The Mission Impossible team may suddenly deposit my mom on the other side of the door without warning and I want to be sure I'm where she will trip over me when she gets home.

Later dude,
Indy, the senior dog in the room
[shhhh Indy's mom gently advises the thread to kindly consider that at 14 years old Indy's vision and hearing aren't what they used to be:rolleyes2:]

Indy, I truly appreciate your sage advice. I hope to grow up to be half barker and half the dog that you are. Well done sir! :wink2:

Respectfully yours,

Aonghus

Hi Cheyenne,

My name is William, I believe that communication is important in a good relationship. Too bad our human parent are not so well developed in our Sheltie language. It is really frustrating when I try to tell them things over and over and they just don't get it.

Be patient Cheyenne I know it hard to teach them Sheltie language, but we should understand that their brain don't developed as well as ours. As my Sheltie parent told me, have faith in your human parent effort to understand you.

Although sometimes their response could be annoying, like shaking can or ignoring us when all we want is their attention, but sometimes they do nice things too, like squirt fresh water to you. If they do that, try catch the water, its fun thing to do. And bark for more water, its very useful in hot weather.

PS : Don't forget to give them special treatment once and a while, it keep them happy and content. Try to sit and give your hand for them to shake, I always get food or praise when I do that., why they want to shake hand when sniffing is much more fun and give more information? They're such a simple minded but nice creature.

Oh, I'm rolling laughing here! You are very, very funny!

Hi everyone,

My name is Bravo. I'm 3 1/2 months old and just learning to speak my mind! I'm pretty quiet around the house, where it's nice and safe; but, when I go outside I need to scare away all the crazy monsters that are going to attack me and human. Like cars and trains.

My human wonders why I get so excited, but someday one of those cars is going to chase him down! And the train is soooo loud, how can it not be evil? It's a good thing he's got me around now.

Trains ain't nothing! Awhile ago, I scared away a hot air balloon that landed across the street.

I barked and barked and barked! And man, those guys high-tailed it out of there! A truck pulled up and they very promptly packed up the balloon and took off!

I know Mom appreciated my efforts, and I'm sure Mom's neighbours did too! I saw a few of them shaking their fists....I'm sure that was directed at the balloon, and not at me, right????!!!! :uhoh::winkgrin:
