Barkley Gets His Wings

Thanks to everyone who posted. It's been a week, and it doesn't get easier. It's the little things that get you...the TV commercial he used to run and bark at...putting out one less dish at feeding time...the emptiness of the time I spent caring for him at the end. They are never with us for long enough, no matter how old they are.

Ann, the sudden transition from intense caregiving to nothing is jarring and so emotional, I went through that with Brooke. You feel aimless somehow. It will really be months before the sadness begins to fade for you. On our walks it took forever for me to stop looking back and waiting for Brooke to catch up (off leash walks). It was our routine for years - she loved to meander and take her own sweet time sniffing and marking, checking out gopher holes etc. Our lives revolve around them so much. I am sorry for your sadness and hope it will lift with the help of your beautiful pack of girls. :hugs

Post as you need to about Barkley - whether fond memories or just to say you miss him. We all get it.
