Bathing your pups!

Ohhhh....you HAVE to get to a WalMart automotive section and buy an Absorber brand towel!!!!! It's a chamois type in a plasting tube and I'm telling you, your Shelties will almost be completely dry when they leave!!! When they get good and wet, ring it out and start over. This is the only brand that I have found that works this great and it's only about $10 and lasts for a really, really, really long time This is also what us 'show' folks refer to as a 'butt' towel LOL

I have one of those but it never occured to me to use it on Sadie, what a good idea!

I'll definitely give it a try when I bath her next. I don't know how impressed my husband will be though, he might make me buy one specifically for Sadie

I love it! It reminds me how I used to bath my human kid when they were infants!

Ok - I think I'm going to brave it next weekend! And yes, I think I may try it Chris' way....though I might put a swimsuit on! I'd hate for the pups to try to grab something that would be rather painful to grab! Ouch!

Couple of other things.....do you brush before and/or after?
And what shampoo do you recommend?

I brush before and after a bath. The bath tends to make all the loose fur come out so there's less fur clogging my drain and getting stuck to my hands if I brush first.

I use Mane and Tail Shampoo and conditioner on Sadie. Its very gentle, makes her rough glow white and is very inexpensive compared to other dog shampoo. At Walmart in Canada it costs about $7.00 and the bottle is twice the size of most dog shampoos

I did see that at Walmart and I remember it from a previous post. With a name like that, it would appear to be a horse shampoo, but not at Walmart? Is it very smelly? I find I'm somewhat allergic to some dog shampoos! I don't know if its the odor or the soap itself.

So methinks I take the furminator out first for an "inelegant" brushing, dry pup, then do a proper line brush to avoid curly hair syndrome. Not an issue for Bacca but Indy's fur has a tendency to curl somewhat.

Love the chammy idea! I use one after we wash our boat at the cottage. It really does absorb the water! And leave a nice shine!

Its definitely a horse shampoo. I was very surprised it was sold at Walmart, but there it is! It does not have a strong smell so shouldn't irritate you. I even found it gentle on my hands, unlike other shampoos. The side of the bottle says you can use it on human hair too, although I haven't been brave enough to try yet.

I always use the furminator on Sadie before bathing and it helps a lot with the shedding afterward.

I'm definitely going to try the Absorber shammy afterward next time!

Ok, I had to laugh as that is how I sometimes do it too, but I wear a bathing suit . This did bring back a great memory of my sheltie angel Dorian's first bath! Here's the photo. That's my little sister in the tub with him! So, you are not the only one that gets in there with them! I find, I get wet either way. LOL!
