 This is going to sound really weird, but my Ruutu (who will be 5 months on the 11th) is getting his adult teeth in. He basically bites anything he can at the moment, including himself. Lately, he has been biting his weewee (or maybe scratching it?) and he has numerous red little bumps around it. We have wet naps that we use to clean down there occasionally and have been doing that. He has also been taking benadryl because of a bug bite he has. Just wondering if anyone else has this issue or know what I could do to help him. He has numerous chewies as well as this toy that you freeze and then he chews on. I plan to consult his breeder either today or tomorrow. It doesn't look like something is biting him, but him doing it to himself. :o

Little red bumps don't sound too good. Seems like he his having a reaction or infection of some sort. If I were you I would take him to the vet.

I make it sound worse than it is  it's not like little little bumps but it's like bug bite size hard to explain without a picture. But it could be that he is having a reaction. I've kinda slacked on giving him the benadryl lately though as the bug bite he does have is extremely tiny right now (it's on his shoulder so no where near the area of his privates) And that's also why I'm going to talk to his breeder- She's a vet as well :biggrin2:

Oh wow, thats pretty nasty! I had a problem with Jody and his... ummm... under side. But he didn't chew, he liked. And I know that sound normal but it wasn't just to clean himself, it was as if he ENJOYED doing it:ick! I'm not going into detail! But it was the 2ed most discussing thing I've ever seen a dog do! Poo eating is the 1st!:dead:

 it's not that nasty, doesn't bother me  my female cleans herself verrrrry often. But I just feel bad because to me it would be painful, but he shows no signs of it. Even with his bug bite, he showed no signs of it and it was HUGE when i first found it. Btw- he also eats poo if we don't catch him., but he's doing A LOT better with potty training so no more issues as of now :fl.

I'd get it checked for both an infection under the prepubice and/or a UTI. Dogs should clean themselves but not as you describe.

Bandit, our border collie had the problem of small bumps there also, he was constantly licking himself there, I think they were itchy. Took him to his regular vet - got antibiotics for it. The rash did go away when he was on the antibiotics and then when his treatment was done it would come back. I went thru 2 rounds of this.

I talked to a another vet and he told me that he thought he was probably suffering from some sort of food allergy and he suggested trying some of the following - raw meat, fish oil, probiotics, and digestive enzymes. Well I thought it was worth a try so I put him on fish oil and probiotics and it did clear up - I did give it to him daily until it cleared up and for probably a month or 2 after that, now I just try to give it to him a couple of times a week. (if I don't give it to him, it will come back, I tried not giving it to him to see what would happen) In fall he is going on a raw meat diet.

I also give it to our Sheltie, he doesn't have any of the rash issues, but he hates to be left out, and I figures it couldn't hurt him. ( His only issues are being overweight and occasionally limping, which sometimes I think he fakes.) Good luck

At 5mths he could just be 'investigating'. It is worth checking out or a UTI or other infection. I'd stop using the wipes for a while too - they may be irritating things. When Deska was chewing his privates (when other dogs excessive lick his privates he tends to get an itch) I used chlorhexidine wash that I got from the chemist and that cleared things up.

That's what we think too. He's not peeing more than usual or anything. it's just he's in his biting stage and literally bites everything. I've checked him for fleas and everything else as to bugs and got nothing so idk. It does look like it's healing up though.

so, talked to his breeder/vet and she said it looks like it's a rash and sometimes little boys splash pee on themselves and get a rash so neosporne and more cleaning.
