Within the last year my 3 year old sheltie has developed this interesting bedtime routine. The top blanket on our bed is very soft, plush and cozy. He will take the blanket in his mouth and suck on it and bite it very quickly. He looks very relaxed while he does it. He will close his eyes and contract and then relax his paws (like a cat kneading). These sessions typically last 5-10 minutes but he only does this at bedtime. As the behaviour looks cute and isn't destructive I haven't made any effort to correct him. I did read on the internet that this is common in active herding dogs such as shelties as a way of de-stressing and relieving anxiety. He gets plenty of daily exercise and attention from the both of us. Any insight would be appreciated! Thank you!
