Blindness

I might be misunderstanding the OP but it sounds like they are concerned because the dog has a blue eye and a brown eye. This is fairly common in merle shelties and does not indicate vision issues. If the vet has concerns OUTSIDE of the color of the eye, then yes, I think a visit to a canine ophthalmologist might be in order.

Milo is sable and white. Did you go to a specialist for the eye exam?

was either parent a merle? if so, then your dog is likely a sable merle and having one blue eye and one brown eye is totally normal.
it can be hard to tell if a brown dog is a merle since there are already multiple shades of brown on a sable dog.
My sable merle is very obviously a sable merle but not all have coloring that makes it obvious that the dog is a merle.

I am beginning to wonder if he is a sable merle. Cleo is a sable merle, and while she does not have one blue and one brown, she has one brown and one that is blue/brown. I was concerned when she was first brought home that she may be going blind. I had the vet check her three times before he explained to me that this is very common with her coloring being merle. He then said her eyesight would be fine.

The eye color wasn't our concern. It was the most recent vet exam. Our vet didn't see him tracking with the blue eye. He wants us to observe behavior and check the tracking ourselves when Milo is less stressed. Then we will talk about a specialist for more information. I was curious to hear from other owners because obviously, we are concerned. Thanks for all your replies:sadsmile:
