They are indeed buckle collars.
I walk on a second martingale collar or harness while the first collar is still on. Not long after I got my first dog he and I were almost hit by an r/c jet airplane (one of our hobbies) and the boy bolted leaving me holding all collar and ID. Fortunately the parking people on horsback tracked him and they got me on a quad where I could call him back. I spent the rest of the day sobbing and pulling foxtails off him. Lesson learne BIG TIME. After that, my dogs have all been walked on harness or martingale with the regular collar left on as well with the ID. I had that boy chipped the next week and all have been chipped as well since! I also live now in a rural area where the dogs have an area within another fence within another fence within another fence (our pastures ring us so we can concentrate grazing for fire control at certain times of the year). Our front door has a security door onto a deck with a gate. VERY unlikely anyone will make it too far.
What is nice about this collar is that it is "aurora borealis" stones which catch the light as silver, pink, orange, etc.
