After Meadow's big puppy to adult blow, she hasn't done that again. None of mine seem to do that, just shed continually small amounts. I wonder if Cindy's right and it's our mild weather?

It also seems to depend on whether they're intact or spayed. My spayed girls don't have big coat blows either, they just shed some seasonally. It's only my intact girls whose coats are affected by their heat seasons and blow coat big time.

Deacon sheds 24/7.... he has a thicker coat and leaves white hair everywhere - good thing we think he's so cute!
Brodie has a thinner coat, doesn't seem to shed quite as much, but he does seem to lose his 'pants' over the winter. They have thinned out every year and grow back over the winter. He turns 4 next month so we shall see if we have a repeat this year or it is something he outgrew.

Hi and you got lots of responses-- and yup it seems to be backwards logic but as we get toward winter all our shelties began blowing their undercoat - and quickly growing another. We joked that there is enuf to build another sheltie each Fall. Our female does not shed as much as our male nor as quickly. We save the fur and make fur balls which we hang outside in the spring to give birds and some lucky squirrels a nice soft bed for their nests- and wow do they go after it-- it is the primo nest material. One of our shelties which passed recently had Dermatomyosistis which is an autoimmune disease. The body begins to attack fur follicles and eventually muscle tissue. We treated her for years with meds and she lived to be 13-- her fur got progressively thinner in spots her undercoat was mostly gone and we considered having to put a coat on her in the winter but she never quite got that bad. But to the point sheltiies do blow their coat but she really never did in the same way..
