I was fortunate with my 12 year old lad.
He never shed! He would hold his coat until it was brushed out. I used to do it myself at least once per week then started bringing him to a groomer every 8 weeks or so when he got older because it never seemed an issue. That being said, when the brushing started, gobs of fur came out. So I just kept to a regular brushing schedule.
I now have a 4 month old, and he's showing the same tendencies. Crossing my fingers!
