Blue Buffalo Life Protection Puppy Food

I will be getting a male Sheltie in the next couple weeks when he turns 8 weeks old. I was just wondering if Blue Buffalo Life Protection Puppy food would be a good food to start him off with?

Also, how often should I feed him moist food? Do they need to have it?

Thanks.

Congrats on getting a new puppy! How Exciting!!

As far as food that is a fine choice! Just check with the breeder on what they are feeding. You'll want to keep that same feeding schedule, and food for atleast a week till he adjusts to you and your home. Than slowly start introducing the BB puppy food.

Once hes adjusted you dont need to add moist canned food, they really dont need it. You can moisten the dry food with warm water a minute or two before you feed them.

Can I ask why you are choosing this food in particular?

There are so many foods out there, so perhaps we can respond better if we knew what you were looking for in a food. And where you live, and if you are willing to pay a premium for better food, and, and.....

I get confronted with this question all the time in my store, and the answer is: that depends! There is better and worse food, for sure. And we always need to drill down to find out what the pup and pup parent's needs are.

:o I really don't know what I'm looking for. I don't know very much about dog food. I just picked the BB because I read some reviews and it seems like a good quality food.

I live near Jacksonville, FL.

I'm open to other suggestions, but the price of the BB is around what I'm looking to spend.

BB is a fine food, I feed it to my 5 here...the older one with gallbladder was switched to California Natural due to health reasons..otherwise shes be on the BB still! As far as recalls etc its got a fairly good track record compared to other foods. and the best is its a good food that wont break the bank! Heck if I didnt have one with food allergies id still be feeding Eukanuba, I still raise puppies on Eukanuba!! My dogs flourished on it but it got ridiculous to be buying 3 different types of food!

Blue Buffalo is a premium food-great choice

I feed my 10.5 old Olive blue buffalo puppy, but she had other foods at the beginning. The one the breeder was feeding her was only available at feed stores, and for me, that was a 100 mile round trip. :( So, we tried several different quality foods, but every one of them gave her 'pudding poops'--not quite diarrhea, but most certainly not normal 'logs'. Two days of the blue buffalo and she's never had a poop problem since. I don't know if it's the probiotics in the food, or the fact that the only grain is brown rice, but I won't be switching to another brand anytime soon. And, she has the glossiest coat. It is a coarse sheltie coat, but it shines..see attached picture of my fuzzy girl. I know that I'm only one person, but for my Olive, it's blue buffalo!

I feed our kitty B.B. and she does really well on it. She would vomit or have loose stools on other hard foods. She gets a small amount of that in the am and then 1/2 a can of food -By Nature brand, in the pm. Sally is fed Evo amd does well on it, same deal as the cat ,small amount of dry Evo and 1/3 canned By Nature in the pm plus very small bites of whatever we have for a meal. I feed really small portions of commerrcial foods so that they get the vitamins that our meals may be lacking for them. We eat whole foods and very little processed stuff. Sally is used to all differnt kinds of foods and doesn't get diarrhea from this, so it works for us.
