Boycotting Dog Food

Definitely, first and foremost, get him checked to make sure this isn't a health issue.

However, if it is not a health issue, you have a few options. My Spirit Joy went through a phase that she was extremely picky about food and everyone told me to just wait her out, and when she was hungry, she would eat. They advised me not to switch her food just because she was demanding it. But to be honest, the last thing I wanted was a battle of wills over food. I just think it gets in the way of the relationship I want to have with her. I switched her to a raw diet, she adores it and has never refused it, and it's good for her. Problem solved. And she seems to have just outgrown the picky puppy stage and will eat anything I put in front of her

What sorts of raw foods do you feed your pup? I had considered that as well. As for health-- I really feel very confident that he doesn't have any health issues as he is acting completely normal and like his playful self. No lethargy or concerning behavior. Plus, he scrounges around the kitchen floor like a scavenger, looking for any slight morsel of human food to gobble up. The only issue is that he sometimes regurgitates his food, but I really think it's because he eats way too fast (which he was notorious for doing). Now maybe he's hesitant to eat because he thinks the dog food makes him sick, when it's really the fact that he eats too fast. Who knows... Perhaps the kind of food he's on does upset his stomach or he has an allergy to it. I have since gotten him a fresh bag of food just in case the previous bag was spoiled. Anyhow, that's part of why I was considering a raw diet because I know, based on his behavior and preferences, that he would gobble it right up.

Let's hope your new strategy will work.

Do he get enough exercise every day ?? - if you have the option of places where he can run free, this may also give appetite. :wink2:

A slim dog is healthier and have better quality of life than a dog with too much weight :smile2:

He walks laps with me in the morning and then gets a two mile walk every evening with my husband. Plus, a trip or two outside to play frisbee in between. :)

We have a distributor for Healthy Pet Products locally (http://www.healthypetdiet.com/). The raw food we buy is sold in 5 pound tubes, and it is beef based. It also contains fruits and vegetables and ground bone. I know of some people who make their own raw formulations but to be honest I'm too lazy :uhoh:

Also, Spirit has an incredibly sensitive stomach, but she has done great on this food from day 1.

Just as a follow-up: Ever since switching Henry to grain-free food, he has been eating ALL of his food, morning and night.

Good news....maybe the grains in his tummy didn't feel good. I don't like to read about dogs not wanting to eat. Having never had that issue I would be fearful and anxious, glad you found a solution:biggrin2:
