Breakfast and night vision

I too love the updates and progress of your sweet baby girl. It seems we are all watching this one closely, cheering Claire on to the great Sheltie we know is in her and by her actions, I think she is really wanting to let that amazing girl out. I sure wouldn't rush her into anything, this is one case where slow and steady will win the race. Continued good luck and WAHOO for every baby step that Claire takes. :fl :smile2: :hugs

so precious

I love that face, such a pretty lass! Give her time and I think she will come around. If she feels safe and protected, I bet she won't be as skiddish.

Such a beautiful girl - she reminds me of my little girl Lady.
When I adopted my boy Laddie, he also came from an abused and frankly unknown background (he was found as a stray and didn't even have the benefit of a foster home as they were full up so he was at the rescue kennel).
He had a lot of fear aggression and would also hide.
Just a lot of loving and hugging and belly rubs and it took him about a week to realize he was safe and loved. You would not have believed it was the same little boy that I brought home!
Love and patience is all they need - they catch on fast!
Best of luck with your sweet little baby girl.

I really suspect Claire & my Forrest came from the same place. And that neither had much outdoors time until being dumped outside in the woods, scary for an experienced dog, terrifying for a Sheltie who hasn't been outside much. That's why I think she's shutting down outside, she's just not real sure of why she's out there, what you're doing, etc. I mean, think about it, what was her last experience outside? Some jerk dropping her off, with pups or pregnant, fighting to survive, her puppies being taken, ugh. She has some bad memories from outside. But she's a smart girl and will learn quickly, look how far she's come in a matter of days!

Love the pic of her cuddling on her new momma's lap!:biggrin2: That's what it's all about in rescue, those moments. There will be more to come!

I'd sure like a few minutes alone with whoever abuses these dogs then DUMPS them off. I'd smack the stupid off them to start. Probably yell at them for awhile too.

My childbride and I had a discussion last night. Claire is rather shaken when I have her out at night and it's windy, dark, one night this week was rainy,.. We have a very big yard which has dark corners at night and she may very well have some night vision issues on top of that. But my wife's out loud thought was "I bet she was attacked and lost her puppies to the coyotes when it was dark". Of course! Coyotes hunt in packs at night and dusk. (Years ago they had me surrounded one night too when I was walking out of the woods.) Good Lord, as a mama sheltie, how do you get beyond THAT as a traumatic experience? We're making ground though, boy what a trooper she's turning out to be. Lots of love, lots of scritches, lots of lap time.

As far as slapping "stupid" off of someone,.. "stupid" is like "ugly" it goes all the way to the bone. But feel free to try - I'd pay good money to watch.
If your Forrest was found around the border of Clare and Roscommon Counties or the Roscommon State Forest area then yeah,.. it could be the same jerk as a repeat offender. Claire's foster parents think they know who it is,.. *snarl*
