After I wrote my post, I realized that there isn't much help in it for people who own males, but don't have any control over the in-season bitches in the vicinity - there's no way to bathe, feed chlorophyll tabs to, or spray scent-covers on your neighbor's bitch, nor do you have much opportunity to "train" your male to get used to it. It is a real challenge, and I can see where the calm-eze would be a godsend.

It could also be the breed. My intact male was an Irish Setter....which are known to be a little bit more "challenging" in the training aspect when compared to a Sheltie :rolleyes2:

Romeo...perhaps I missed the thread or went senile again....are you planning on putting him to stud? If not, why aren't you going to neuteur him? Just curious!
 
Romeo has some type of neurologial disease(I forget what at the moment) that makes anesthesia risky. So he is not neutered. :smile2:
 
Thanks for all your responses!! I really should stop by on the weekend but Romeo demands all my attention on his days.

Yep, Romeo's got something wrong going on in his nervous system and the vet has advised against taking the risk of putting him under GA.

I was juuuuust wondering where I could find some females for him to train with! :lol: He tends to bother the younger girls more (up to about 3 years old) regardless of whether they are in heat or not :rolleyes2:. He has been around females in heat (with their pants on) before and he went bonkers. He'd be panting hard like he ran a marathon, but not at all tired and he would look SO HAPPY you can see his eyes are wide and all lit up, kind of like in the cartoons with the dollar signs except there are female shelties in his eyes. :eek2:

I've been doing attention work with him and will get some calm-eze if it will help the training. I was looking at Rescue Remedy and a whole bunch of others but couldn't decide what would work.
