My Neechee had chronic bronchitis for years. Oddly, the same years, I had the exact same thing. My vet and I put our heads together, and came up with a unique solution.
I was having to do breathing treatments on myself with a nebulizer about 4 times a day. We rigged up a kind of hood where I could take my own treatment while holding Neechee and he would be able to breathe the same nebulizer-ed air as I did. It really helped him, and he'd come running when he heard me getting out the nebulizer.
He had an alarming-sounding cough - deep and dry. After a nebulizer treatment, he'd cough a few times, then be fine for the rest of the day. He was about 15 at the time, and the biggest improvement was when I moved from my house to my parents' house (long story-don't ask).
But at my parents' house, the vet decreed that he shouldn't be doing all the stairs (my parents' house has 3 stories, and we lived on the top story), so he had to be carried a lot. Since he only weighed 12 pounds, that wasn't much of a problem, except I had had spinal surgery and could only lift 5 pounds. Thank goodness for my wonderful parents - they would come upstairs and get Neechee, carry him downstairs, and take him outside for me.
But the bronchitis was a recurring thing, and took a lot of work to make it any better.
