Diva, Birch and I have been spending the holiday weekend hanging out at the agility trials.

Its a brand new trial at a brand new site, the Vadnais Heights Sport Complex. OMG it is the best surface I have ever run on. Awesome sports turf, very spongy, no dogs have really been slipping and it is friendly to the handlers joints as well. Plus it is air-conditioned(people have actually been heard to complain it is cold ) As a result the dogs are running great and the trial day is getting done around 2pm daily. Super effort by the ring crews and awesome flowing yet challenging courses by the judges.

Friday, Birch got his 1st Q in Open Standard and got 1st place. He again missed the weave entrance but it wasn't the easiest entry as I had to try and rear cross him in an effort to keep away from the dog walk(he is a contact sucker).

In Open JWW, he hit the entry but couldn't get himself into the 2nd weave. Then I didn't drive him hard enough into the corner and got a refusal on a corner jump and that was that for jumpers. Truth be known I was trying to cheat back and slowed to much before the turn. I am getting faster myself but his speed is still playing with my mind and I don't trust myself to get to where I need to be yet. However, loved the 3 jump lead out and the awesome finish.

Diva got her 10th double Q and 24 more MACH points. She got 4th in jumpers and 2 solid runs. We had a little confusion at the end of Jumpers or she would have been 2nd. We are now officially half way to her MACH.

Saturday:

Birch got his 1st Open JWW leg and a 1st place. He hit his weave entrance! but I got a refusal trying to do a front after the weaves. I was late late late signaling. it He was still 28 seconds and change. So now we have 1 leg of each.

Standard was heartbreaking. I thought we Q'd but it turned out I popped Birch out of the last pole and I didn't see it. It is hard to see in the video but I stepped out early and he followed. So sad.:( He hit the entry on the weaves and I thought he was clean. 45 and some change on a 70 second course.

Diva had a great run in JWW but I turn 1 step early for the rear and Diva followed blowing a great run. :gaah She was working on 14 seconds under course time too. But I started thinking never a good thing.

We redeemed ourselves in Standard and got 19 more MACH points. Of course, the best run of the day , no video. But it was a trappy but flowing course and Diva handled it perfectly. Such a good girl. :smile2:

I hope everyone can see the video on FB(made them public) as my phone and youtube are fighting for some reason. One more day tomorrow.

Wrapped up the trial today with Birch getting another leg in Open Standard with a 1st place. 1 more to go and then Excellent :eek2: We had a few issues in JWW, It was a good run but my timing was off and I pushed or pulled him off 3 jumps. It was a big flowing super fast course and Birch was in a mood to run.

Diva Q'd in Master Standard and picked up 20 MACH points.

She almost Q'd in JWW not sure what happened but she slipped on take off or tried to add a stride and crashed a jump. Things happened fast, I saw her legs go everywhere, the bar went flying, rolled in front of me , I slowed and hopped over the rolling bar and looked up and Diva had never broke stride and was in perfect position to finish the serp to finish. She is such a good girl. Fortunately she was not hurt as the bar hit her in the chest just below her throat. Diva is not a bar knocker so I feel her hind legs just slipped. She was flying too still finished 14 secs under course time even with hitting the jump.

Congrats on a very successful weekend!!!

Unfortunately I can't watch the videos here at work because Facebook is blocked. I'll try to watch them tonight :)

Great weekend for you! I love the photo of Diva and Birch with all their ribbons.

In the first video (Friday STD) where Birch missed his weave entry, it looks like you turned too late. He was already going for the off course jump when you rear crossed and when he turned back to you he was set up at the 2nd or third weave pole. I'm certainly no expert, but maybe a rear cross behind the tire (inside of in front on the flat) would've been better? I think you were also so worried about him taking the DW, you babysat him at the jump, so he was already approaching the tire when you were standing still.

I feel your pain about loving the contact equipment. If there is a tunnel under the DW or AF, Bailey will take the contact because in training she gets treats for 2o2o, so she loves them!

All your runs were great. Nice speed and good distance. Birch and Diva are very good! Congrats on all your achievements!

Does Birch jump 20''? What does Diva jump?

Grate runs! Burch and Deva looked like they were having fun! I just found out that I can watch videos from FB on one computer, but not the other. So now I can play a little catchup and watch a the videos I missed.:biggrin2:

It is hard to say if I could have rear crossed the tire. The weaves were at a difficult angle for that. A front cross before the tire would have been the best but You are right I was really worried about the dog walk. I do think I was a bit late as he did focus on the off course jump. Birch has a very long commitment point so much further out then my other dogs so I am finding myself at bit late quite often yet.
In AKC, Birch jumps 16" as he is 16 3/4"

Diva jumps 12", she is 13 1/2"

everyone is looking good- I'm jealous that our trial wasn't all patriotic like yours:winkgrin:
Congrats on all the good runs.

I loved watching those videos! Many congratulations on your wins and placings - you must be very proud of Diva and her son.:biggrin2:

I love the distance you get with them both - how do you train for that?

Birch has such a neat way of running, he looks so precise and so confident! I'm very impressed at how well he is doing. His weaves are looking good too. I've always enjoy watching Diva run, even before I knew anything about agility. She's so obviously having a great time and I loved the bit at the end where she's jumping about with joy.

Like Birch and Bailey, Epic is also mad keen on contacts. In fact a bit too keen as he'll try out a 2o2o on pretty much any likely looking object! Something I guess I'll need to be aware of too when we start doing more complicated courses. :wink2:

Looks like a great venue too. I want some of that sports turf!

Congratulations, I really enjoyed watching the videos. LOL, Laddie could hear some barking so he chimed in his two cents worth as well.
