I got the K9 Flu shots for Edan. Because he's constantly surrounded by other dogs due to classes and agility trials, he fell into the "high risk" category. My vet recommends it for all dogs who receive bortedella shots. (I got a bortedella for Edan back in June right before our first agility trial - better safe than sorry when in a kenneling area with multiple dogs.) My vet in not one to recommend vaccinating an animal just because. If she doesn't feel its necessary, she won't administer a shot. Even for senior dogs, she will run titers before administering unnecessary vaccines.
The shot was given in two doses two weeks apart. The first one had to be administered by the vet. The second one was administered by a tech but there was no tech fee charged, just the vaccination cost. My vet also insisted that it be administered separate from any other shots just in case there was a reaction.
Edan was tired for about 24 hours after the shot but not so lethargic that he didn't want to eat, drink or go out; in other words, I didn't see anything to make me worried. Heck, mention of food or anyone working in the kitchen brought the same enthusiasm we normally get.
