So as some of you know my wife and I recently purchased a young puppy for her little sister (Her sister picked it out and we went back and got it for xmas). The puppy is a red tri female "mini" aussie. She is a hilarious little puppy. We have had her for less than a week now and, I dont want to jinx it, but she already seems potty trained. We are working on the 3rd day/night tonight and have not had an accident (accept for the puppy pad in her crate at night) since wednesday. Everytime she wants to go out, she gets in front of the door (Like Kiko our 18week old sheltie and Lilly our 6mo old dachshund) and whines/barks or jumps up and rings the bell. I am beginning to think I just cant give this little girl up. She seems so easily replacible by my sister in law. Last night we went to a pet store and they had a Shiba Inu (of course I wouldnt buy from here, but I do buy my food from them) that she also fell in love with and decided that was another dog she would want. So without jinxing myself again, this is *probably* the newest and last furry member of our family

Besides, it's not a good idea to give puppies as Christmas presents...and she'd be confused...and lonely without you...and why disrupt her happiness...and yours...:wink2:

Totally agree! Keep this baby yourself!

Your sister in law can get her own puppy! Pups do not make good Xmas gifts unless they are "chosen" by the giftee.

You can always take Phoebe's advice and give a Furbee...with a note attached that when she's ready, you will turn the Furbee into a "real boy or girl" - Pinocchio style!

I have a Furby, that I can send to you overnight. :biggrin2:

She is so cute..! I would take everyones advice, and keep her. Puppys for Christamas is not a good idea. Defineately a really cute babe~

I know I wouldn't be able to give her up either - although 3 dogs under 1yr would be a nightmare!

I have never seen a mini-Aussie - we have a lot of full size Aussies in Aust but no minis. If I was to get another bigger dog I would get an Aussie - they have great personalities and are very like shelties (just shorter hair). are the minis the same?

Can I suggest for your SIL not get a Shiba Inu. They are very dominant dogs, headstrong and prone to aggression - they are better off with experienced and firm owners.

She is adorable!!!! I agree, you should keep her  She seems to fit in so well for you guys!

Apollo is a mini aussie, and he is truly a standard aussie in a slightly smaller package. I may be biased, but I think mini aussies make perfect housemates for shelties. Apollo is a little oversized for a mini (17.5" and 35 lbs) and Smoke is a smaller sheltie so we have to supervise playtime when it gets very rambunctious, but other than that the boys are great buddies :smile2:

Agreed 100% I'm certain Shibas guard the gates of Hell. They are cute though. I'm sure there are nice Shibas out there but I haven't met them.
