Can't edit posted posts

Wouldn't be surprised if I'm not the only one.

You aren't. I'm the typo queen though - so don't try to take my title. Many have tried and all have failed.

I guess it's just the fact that we pay for everything on this forum that other forums give for free (and they have just as many members). We pay to upload pictures (to attach and to have albums), we pay to post events, everything we pay for that other sites you get for free. Want to talk about something non dog related? We pay for that section of the forum, too.

It's just kind of annoying to me that we pay and continually get restricted.

There's also plenty of forums out there that don't even have the option to upload photos at all. Also keep in mind, whether or not you are a premium member, you can still use photobucket, flckr or any other photo sharing site. It really is the same thing.
The events section and chit chat section are just little perks to being a premium member. This is a forum specifically about shelties. If there wasn't a premium member option, there would be no events or chit chat section at all. The chit chat section was something that we added recently. We thought it might be a nice perk to being a premium member and it allows us to keep that section private and not clutter the site.

As for the one hour editing restriction...if there wasn't people who took advantage of the longer time to edit your posts, then we wouldn't have to restrict it. It also helps us moderators. We have a ton of posts to read through. It would be even tougher if we had to read the edited posts as well. Also, think of it this way... can you go back and edit what you say to people in a real life conversation?

Randi, I totally support you here. There is limit to what you guys can monitor.

I think if beyond one hour, if you need to retrack, then you do so on the thread, publicly. That is...".ooops, I bad.."

As I said before....I usually preview my posts before I post.....so I usually catch my ooops almost immediately. I think its a good best practice.

I also preview my long posts for "readability". I try to look at it from point of view of the reader. I insert paragraph breaks just to make it easier to read.

I find alot of posters write these paragraphs that go on for 20 lines. My eyes will just glaze over that. I'm trained to speed read. So I read the first line, skip to the end and paragraph breaks. If I'm still engaged thn I real read front to back.

The point I was trying to make is - if I make a typo, since I am shelling out money to use the site, why am I restricted to an hour? I don't think it's a moderator problem. Since I've posted every moderator that's been online has viewed this thread. Some more than once.

Going from 20 hrs to edit your posts down to 1 shouldn't be a big deal & isn't an added restriction. There should be zero need to go back an hour or more later and change what you said. Post & move on. If you need to, compose a new post to clarify your position.

You can't make everyone happy all of the time and you can't pay the bills by 'giving away the farm' either.

The information sharing & friendship here is free. Have you noticed this forum is free of spam & trolls? Want extra cool features? It costs $ to provide extra server storage space for all your photos. There are also back end support costs members are not even aware exist.

You are never pressured to pay anything to participate here. If you think other forums are better, then you are under no obligation to be a member here.

It's discouraging when members publicly post negative comments about how this forum is run when myself & the moderators work very hard to keep this a place that is educational, safe, fun & worth being a member.

If you've made a really bad typo, then feel free to PM me or another moderator and we'll be happy to edit it for you.

we've read this thread multiple times because as a moderator we have to read every post. So every time there is a new post in a thread, we read it.

Kudos to you! I don't know how you guys manage to read every post.

There are times when I get behind that I just give up....and just mark every post as read and start again!

I really admire your dedication to this forum. I may not agree with every decision, but you are one dedicated, committed and caring bunch of people. Thanks so much!

Thanks, Barb. We appreciate your recognition of what it takes to keep this Forum going ... most of it by Kelly who, I might add, couldn't have said it better in her post below. We all do our best because we love our breed and the community here. It's really upsetting to read comments that disparage that effort.

You get what you pay for. If you don't like what you're getting, don't let us keep you.
