was wondering if anyone had any new info on capuring training with the clicker? do you just watch for the desired behavior, name it, click, then treat? or is it better to just click and treat and then name the behavior later? any advice would be appreciated. thank you.

If your dog is familiar with the clicker and understands that a click means treat and that the click was for a desired behavior, then first, you capture with the click (timing is everything!). Don't start naming/cue word for it until it is something s/he offers more. In general, my favorite rule for this is "Don't name it till you love it!"

Hope this helps :)

Clicks are used to mark the behavior you want; similar to a "yes" or a "good boy" would.

There a number of threads on working with the clicker. Maybe one of them will help answer your questions and provide some guidance on clicker training techniques:

Yep for capturing you just wait for the behaviour you want, click and treat. When the dog starts doing it more and more (which he will because rewarded behaviours are repeated!), and you can kinda predict when he's going to do it, then you can start putting a name to the behaviour (you have to say the cue, just as the dog starts to do the behaviour, then quickly click right after you say it while the dog is still doing the behaviour, and then treat).
