Does anyone have a sheltie who gets carsick easily?
My Amber, she can't take a car ride that's over around 15 mins long. i know someone else whose sheltie gets carsick too, so i'm wondering if that's common among shelties?

only sometimes...

Griffin does get car sick sometimes.... but only in my wife's mini-van... never in my car which is a saturn vue... I think he can see out of the windows better in my car (and my driving is probably better:razz:)
He is a silent puker though... we have never heard him getting sick...
I try not to feed him right before heading out too...

My Beetle gets carsick everytime. Last time she puked 3 times on a 50 mile trip. She does't even want to go into the garage. I have tried dramamine an hour before a trip, sometimes it works. I have tried Stress Free Complex to make her sleep. sometimes that helps. We like to camp and travel, so it is stressful for her. I wish something would work.

My Maggie gets carsick on short trips. She didn't on the 5 hour trip when I brought her home from the breeder. Go figure.

My vet suggested we try Meclizine. I give her two tablets one hour before we put her in the car and it works. It's not an over the counter drug, it is only available from your vet, but it might be worth discussing with your doctor.

Carsickness

I am sure everyone is going to get tired of me but can I suggest "TTOUCH" you can get more info. on the internet about it, but this worked for my guys and it has different touches that will help with anything, grooming, nail trimming, shyness, stiffness and so on, I mean ANYTHING. One of the things you can try is using a tensor bandage and doing a body wrap, this is not an instant cure, but it is something you have to practice it is part of training.

Both Layla and Bits got carsick as puppies. We used a floral essence from Plush Puppy, which helped lots.

Arran gets car sick just looking at a car :biggrin2:, ginger biscuits are meant to be good at helping with car sickness. Have you tried just letting Amber sniff the car for a while then let her sit in it without you going anywhere, you can then build on this by turning the engine on but not going anywhere. If this works start to take her to the end of the road and no further and just slowly let the journeys get longer and longer. I've not tried it with Arran as I don't drive and it's a pain in the bum trying to get someone in the family to do it for me, but I have heard that it works.

My tri girl Charlie gets carsick on long trips in my husband's SUV sometimes. Never in my little solara, though. She also seems to get sick if she stays in one place in the car too long.
