Chin up, you are not alone!
Not so very long ago, Hunter failed his first attempt at the CGC too. I posted about it, I was pretty sad/upset about it. But what it showed me was what we needed to work on. We took 3 months to work on our issues and tried again and we passed! So have faith in your dog and yourself, you guys can do it!
As far as the other comment about a service type vest, a few words of caution:
1. Impersonating a service dog is against the law, not saying anyone would do that or a was suggesting that, just putting that info out there.
2. Service dog vests are expensive
3. It might send the wrong message.
What I would do is to get something like a bandanna and either have it embroidered or painted to say something like "I'm friendly but shy, please ask to pet me" or "I'm in training, please ask to pet me"
