Chasing EVERYTHING

I've only just started so can't say for certain that it'll solve the problem. But, I see the beginnings of a change!!

You might want to, as a start, get a martigale collar - it'll help with the pulling out of harness bit. It's good stuff! I've had several close encounters when big dogs came up to Romeo and he just wanted to bolt. The collar kept him from being able to slip out and run off.

Does Koji loose leash walk just fine except when he sees [insert moving object here] when you guys are on walks? I think the Look At That game will help with the chasing of cars, people, bikers, and generally any object large enough that you can see. The principle behind that 'game' is amazing! If you're clicker training, this would be easier. What you do is you mark everytime Koji looks at something that causes him to chase, but you have to do it the second he spots it (ie. there's a person jogging in the distance, Koji turns to look and you immediately click/'Yes!' and treat). Eventually he'll look at these things in future and turn back to you (in anticipation of a treat), instead of chasing it like he usually does - he'd offer looking at these "triggers" to get a reward from you.

Koji could probably also benefit from alot of games that develop better self-control, like a very strong "leave it".

Incidentally, this CU book is written with an agility angle. The book may help in your agility with Koji! It's supposed to help those in agility develop a more focused dog, but the techniques can easily be applied and used by those, like me, who just want our dogs to stop bloody reacting to every darn person/dog.

That's awesome!!!

Is that the slip choke collar? That only goes so far? If so, I have one. I'm just not sure about it. It's one of those things...I can slip it over his head, and y'know, I'm scared he can still slip out of it, cuz the rings are still hitting one another before "choking" him. I know it's not supposed to, but I'd have to adjust it once it's on him. Just scared, y'know.

He never walks fine. lol. Everything is a distraction. The grass, the bushes, oh look, dust in the air. LOL. But yes, he's more or less okay. I was thinking exactly of that game you described. Saw it on It's Me or the Dog (I think that's the title). I'll work on that.

Strangely enough, he does well with the leave it command on our walks. But like with anything else, I need to translate it to cars and moving objects. Not just stuff on the ground. He's definitely one of "those dogs" that feel a command is for only ONE situation and that's it. lol. ugh!

Oh how funny. I'll have to look into it. We do clicker training and agility so I think I'll check out the book. sounds interesting, and from what I'm reading in the thread.

Thanks for all the info.
