Chelsea does NOT want to play?!?

Pictures of Maddie and Chelsea. Hope they come through okay. She is still rather quiet, know she is missing her mom. She has been in the same home since a small puppy. She was VERY active last night while they were still here, so know she will warm up....hope so anyway :biggrin2:

She is very sweet! Don't worry if it takes as long as a month or so before she is adjusted. When we got Zoe she was not herself for about a month and then something clicked and she was fine. It will take time.

We had Marlie first and she was a grazer. When we were going to get Zoe I had been in contact with her owners for about a week and they said that she inhales her food. So knowing that, I started feeding Marlie twice a day and she got the idea quickly that she needed to eat her food when I put it out. Give Maddie about a week to adjust and then start feeding her twice a day like you do with Chelsea. She willl get it that she needs to eat right away. Or, do you have a crate for her? Maybe feed her in the crate so she feels secure and Chelsea doesn't eat her food. If she doesn't eat it all in 20 minutes then put it up and feed her later. Try that and see if it works.

Hope that helps. Have a great weekend with your new little buddy!

We've had our little rehome, Annie Laurie, since February. I'm still amazed as new facets of her personality unfold. Sometimes I think we may never get to the bottom of this marvelous little girl. I can't believe that the husband of her owner (who loved her dearly, by the way), called her stupid.

sounds like the hubby might qualify for that title :wink2:

Walking the border!!!!

The food problem with Maddie resolved itself! She didn't eat much the first day, so by day two she was so hungry she ate it all and even wandered over to Chelsea's bowl! I think she will adapt to twice a day great...not to mention treats during the day.

She is a Johnny Cash fan! She "Walks the Line" NOW, we have discovered the "quirk" her first mom was talking about. She likes to walk borders or walls. When she goes outside, she walks the edge of the patio to the edge of the driveway to the edge of the flower bed to get to the other side of the yard. Yesterday she walked all the way down almost to the lake walking the edge of flower beds, following the curve, lines, etc. and I have a huge front yard going to the lake. She does this EVERY time! She never just goes across the yard, she must find a border to follow to get where she is going. On the deck she will follow the inside wall. Sometimes in the house she will hug the wall to go across the room. The therapist in me says....."Hmmm, and what are you thinking when you do this and how does that make you feel?"::lol:

When we go for a walk on leash she walks nicely beside me just like Chelsea...well actually better than Chelsea!! lol Chelsea like to grab the leash in her mouth and dance with it.

Has anyone ever seen this behavior? Thanks for all the support and comments!!

First of all, congrats for working out the food problem. There's nothing that gets us more worried than eating problems.

Yes, I've seen that behavior -- like every single day! Many Shelties like to "patrol the borders" to make sure that their kingdom is secure. When it's dark and I let Layla out, she races along the front yard woods line, barking like a maniac. "Stay out! Beware! Fierce Sheltie on patrol!"

Chelsea DOES know how to play!!

Chelsea has a new toy! And she LOVES it!! She and Maddie are like two small children. After day three, they started acting like a couple toddlers. They chase, roll around, and just get under your feet! Chelsea likes to take her paw and hit Maddie with it, sometimes just to get her attention.

What seems a little strange to me is they play MUCH more indoors that outside. When I put them outdoors, they basically lay around the deck or even go to different parts of the yard. The minute they both walk in the door, the fun begins. They chase each other through the house, under tables and just romp and play!! Wonder why they don't do that outdoors?

It WAS a great decision to get Maddie! Thank you all for your encouragement to get Chelsea a little sister!! She is a WONDERFUL little girl, sweet and smart too!! :biggrin2:

glad everything is working out. Maybe they like it indoors b/c first off its alot cooler inside and there is alot more to play around with.. sofas, tables.. it must be like an obstacle for them haha. Where as outside they have free play nothing to make it challenging haha.

Oh!! I'm so glad that the girls are having so much fun together! I love haveing more than one dog because they are so much more active! Big wags and licks from my girls to yours!! :biggrin2:
