Chewie starts his raw diet today!

We are closing in on week 2 on his raw diet and everything is awesome! Chewie attacks his meals enthusiastically all the time, licks the bowl clean, has plenty of energy, poops less, drinks less(I put extra water in his food dish to make sure he gets enough water), and most importantly he is still growing. He put on half a pound in the last 2 weeks so I am very pleased.

My wife still thinks I am crazy though
 
Your wife will come around. I meet more and more people going raw...I can understand why some don't, it's a lot of prep if your doing it yourself (I just made a batch today) and buying a raw mix from a pet store is super expensive! Personally though I wouldn't ever go back, they love it so much and to see Finnie (at only 14 weeks) plow through 6 ounces of chicken backs (I cut and hammer the bones a bit) is amazing, he loves it!
 
Actually I just made my second batch today. First was 2 weeks worth. Today was 3. Chicken meats and green beans and a little cucumber. He tired through it.

I have enough muffin tins now to make a months worth (easy for me to freeze them then sandwich bag the portions). I could not be happier with his response and progress. I will probably pick up my first chicken backs this or next week.

Do you feed that as a meal or in addition to a meal?
 
A raw meaty bone (like a chicken back) is a meal in this house. You give total number of ounces a day, regardless how they get it. Well subtract the green beans, they have little or no nutritional value to dogs. If you are gonna stick with raw, time to add a little bit of heart for the taurine.
