Claussen and Little Bear going downhill with potty training?

You could try letting them out at certain intervals then. Let them out as soon as you get home, then let them out again 4-6 hours later, however long you think they can hold it. Let them out before you go to bed, then let them out as soon as you get up.
.

I agree with Melissa. I don't think anyone has a set steady life and again, I said I let my sheltie out 5, 6, 7, 8th hour depending on the day. As long as you let them out before going to work and let them out after you come back, it's possible. Everyday for precious and I is a different day, be it because of school or work or just a social life. Depending on when I have to leave I let her out so I know she goes. Even if it's at 3 hr mark, just because I know I don't want to make her hold it for 10 hrs, I let her out early and she still goes, even if it's a little. Point is as well, work shouldn't get in the way and it's very much possible. Ex if your busyily getting ready for work and your dog exhibits one of them needs to pee, it's very possible to miss it by being focused on something else. But really, if you know they haven't released themselves in the 6 hrs before and you're planning to go out, don't NOT decide to let them out just because they didn't tell you. You should know that it's very obvious they need to be let out. So let them out. I still don't think it's gonna work otherwise because your dogs are clealy confused by the lack of scheduling on your part. Again, non of us have technically set schedules because all of us have a life, and life can be very expected with plans. But we should be expected to let them out before we have to go out and should be home to let them out again after a certain amount of time. That's how you are told to potty train young puppies, how it's all about consistency and scheduling ad letting them out after so many hours of holding it in. In my opinion, You really need to play more of an active role doing that, letting them out more often.

I also think you should either walk them or go out in the yard with them, so you know if they are actually making or not. When I had a backyard, I always went outside with Bailey to make sure she is actually making. Otherwise, she would just play and forgot to pee. I also recommend having a "go potty" and "Go poop" or "hurry up" command.

Also, don't give them full access to your whole house until you can trust them. If you're in your bedroom, close the door. If you're in the kitchen, gate them in with you. This way they can't run off and pee in another room.

Yes, very important, especially for young dogs. Often they'll get out there and forget what they're doing or Princess Sadie will be stubborn and refuse to go so I have to bring them out twice before I go to work or come home to an accident.

We are still in the middle of potty training and Toby will be 5 months on the 25th :o. I honest to God don't know what the secret is for those of you who have/had completely reliably trained pups at his age :confused2: Ha ha ha ha, that being said...I am a simple minded person therefore I try to keep training simple, you know, K I S S (keep it simple stupid) :biggrin2:.

Update

Yes I do Always let them out when I wake up, get home, or before I leave. The only accidents have occurred overnight or if I leave them with free run of the house (which was only done as a test...no accidents for 5 hours the first time...the next time they didn't make it 3 hours). I did another "test" and have been letting them sleep outside of their crates, but not allowed downstairs and so far so good! No accidents. I think I'm just gonna chuck the runner that's in front of my front door...I'm moving in 3 weeks anyways. I'll be having brand new hardwood flooring throughout my new apt so is there anything you guys can recommend as far as dog accidents and hardwood floors (cleaners, how damaging an accident is to this type of flooring)? They will be crated when I'm gone... They jump the gates if I leave the house...I've been using treats again every time they go out, and Claussen, who just used to stand there and do nothing now has his leg up faster than LB can squat. So this is a nice change. Thank you everyone for your input and advice! I am doing most of the things that are being recommended, I just couldn't figure out why they started going in the house at night. We'll get there...my schedule consists of a 7 day rotating schedule of 7-3,3-11,and 11-7. These times change for me every 7 days so it causes their feeding to be a little off (dinner has to be at 2pm when I'm on 3-11) but it could be a lot worse...at least they aren't going in the house while I'm there and awake.
