Clicker training to go to a marker

Then once you master target you can tape your target to things like an open cabinet door. We do this and tell the dog touch.....and if they do a hard touch they can close the cabinet!

So much fun.

A touch stick is just a stick with a cap or ball on the end. They sell them as target sticks but you could make one. Everything that you teach them to touch with their noses. I use the stand to hold it up indoors(I borrowed mine out so I can't take a picture of it), outdoors I 've used a yellow tent stake and then I can pound it further into ther ground to fade it. You can put PB or squeeze cheese on it to increase interest and drive.

I do the touch for the hand and have them jump up for my hand too Touch is the command. I use "go touch" for going to touch something else. I haven't had any confusion. Go is a general term for my dogs meaning away from me. Thats how I use it others may not. I use the lid too and tape it too things also.
here are some examples of target you can buy.
The freestanding target is cool as it rocks when touched.:smile2:

Oh.. good idea.. so maybe I can train GO TARGET... once I get him to target.. because I am pretty sure "touch" at this stage will confuse him... I WANT a target stick now, thanks ladies! lol

I trained more today with Place, and think he's more getting solid, so I have started a bit longer distances with GO PLACE and then a Sit or a stay or combination of.

He knows out.. like out of the room etc when I am eating or if he is being annoying begging, etc... he goes out the room, and sits or lays down at the exact edge of the threshold! I don't mind any begging myself, but know if I have guests they can't resist his face, lol With me alone he just sits his fuzzy butt on my feet or backwards against my legs. He gets the last bite, I save for him, in his dish lol

YAYY
we are having success.. I have to make a little video soon.
He has been getting much better at it, thank you Becel for providing a target!
Today I took it to the dogpark.. not a huge success, but I wanted to start using it around distractions... tonight after work I worked a little bit more outside on the sidewalk, worked REAL well... then when inside... I kicked the reward squeaky ball under the bed by accident so he couldn't get to it; he RUNS aroundto the living room and targets the lid with a vengence!!! As if that was gonna make the ball magically appear again from under the bed!
I call that a break through! or a damn smart Sheltie lol
