Co-ownership????

I get the breeding thing (hadn't thought of that) but can't you show a dog that is not yours? Or run them in agility? For instance if I had Sca jumping (more than he does already :rolleyes2:) could a friend take him to agility and enter him if I was racing?

As y'all can tell I am new to this stuff and am a bit clueless. Sca is scheduled for a life of harrassing his sheep and being spoiled with no mini-Sca's (though maybe some SheltieCross)

There is no rule that I'm aware that requires the owner be present or be the one showing/competing with the dog, I think it was a personal choise that Deb and Mike made. It's a way to let them share in the dog's accomplishments together.

Personally, if I was going to train and spend months teaching a dog to do agility and then compete with him/her, I'd like to be able to have that pride of ownership that would go with it, a way of acknowleging all the hard work they each do with their shared pet/furbuddy. :)

We are getting another mini aussie from Apollo's breeder that will be a co own. The only way she sells a show quality puppy that will be intact is on a co own contract, unless the buyer is already an experienced shower/breeder.

Angie's #1 reason for selling her puppies this way is that she and her husband only keep 4 dogs themselves, because she does not want a kennel environment and she feels like 4 is the max that they can keep and give enough attention/training to. She sells all the hopefuls on co own contracts, which allows her to show them and to have breeding rights if they grow out well. The co owned dogs only have 1 owner that they live with, though, so there isn't any confusion for them. As far as they know they live with their family and every now and then a nice lady shows up to take them on a trip :wink2:

A nice lady with pocketfuls of bait.

Interesting thanks to everyone. Of course Sca has his summer vacation home (Mom and Dad) and is even at the parlor getting his nails done with Dad this morning (thanks Dad :biggrin2:) I am sure the grooming lady will remark on what a fine looking character he is despite him needing a bath. So even if it is not stated maybe he does have two houses (though one has a cranky Shihtzu in it)
