Definitely give that one a try. Nike is super sensitive (and shy), and awhile back I realized that he was extremely nervous in class because he was associating his regular buckle collar with going places (which is still very nerve wracking for him, it's been a long road). I switched him to a super light choke and he's a different dog. He associates that collar (and a really light leather lead) with obedience, which is a joy for him.
I'd agree. I'm also teaching him what clicker training is, so I"m using that to help him accept a lead/collar and associate that with good fun training. He had yummy Cheerios last night for his first session, just so it's something he loves.

It went well. But he still hated having a collar on. I'll go find one this weekend. I saw a lightweight choke (use it loose, not as a choke) "chain", may try that one.
I think, like Nike, Miko is associating "collar" with choke chain and old school training. I was telling the manager at my day care about Miko (asked her for the printout for clicker training) and she said, "how'd you train him before", and I said, "y'know, choke chain, yank" she had this look on her face

she said, "noooooooo" and I said, "yes, unfortunately. but in my defense it was 12 years ago....who know back then".
I hope I can retrain him. BTW, hard to train when it goes like this. C/T....wait....wait while he chews.....still chewing. oh gawd.....oh! C/T.....wait.....wait... LOL
