color and character

Although each dog can certainly vary in terms of personality no matter the color, it's well known among breeders that tri's are generally very different in terms of temperament from sables in terms of energy, independence and obedience. Not to say they don't learn as well; they do...it may be that they just choose to ignore it.

We had one tri several years ago. We loved her to bits, but her nickname was Psycho Puppy. None of our sables (we have 5 of those currently) have ever been like her.

I think it has a lot to do with the line, than the color. A lot of AOACs with have dogs behind them that sables won't if they come from a line that is mostly, if not all, sable.

excellent point:yes:

I do believe it's more individual than color....

have had 5 shelties- first sable was a rescue so no idea of her lines- pretty mellow.
Sable merle boy and sable girl littermates- both feisty but boy is more velcro.
Biblack boy- pretty mellow but does enjoy agility and rally
Biblue boy- youngest and most energetic- very busy boy

haven't had a tri yet but will let you know eventually:winkgrin:

Sca is a Tri (very little brown though) who almost always gets voted most laid back Sheltie

Spitfire is a Sable and insane.

I think color has zero to do with it. Oh and they are both my buddies.

I really think it is the line more than anything. Kaleigh's parents are FAST and good workers, and Kaleigh, she probably would be lousy at working farm life, maybe I didn't give her the right upbringing. She is content to just let it all be...but she is my obedient, very compliant one. Her parents are way more energetic. But Kaleigh doesn't resemble her parent's at all colorwise, they are dark shaded sable, she's tricolored and is way stockier and grew bigger than her parents. So that has to be genes further up the line displaying in her.

Savannah's parents, are hard workers, but WAY more mellow and obedient than my holy terror spunk muffin. she's willful & extremely independent, Though a smaller version of her parent's coloring and features. Her siblings are better behaved is what they tell me...she got the attitude gene!!!

Oh, yes! I mean that I volunteer with her at local hospitals and nursing homes as an emotional support dog. We visit elderly folks and people that are recovering from injuries or surgeries...or anyone that would benefit from having a dog around. She's certified through Therapy Dogs International as a "Tail Waggin Tutor" as well so we're involved in a reading program with young kids during the school year. Very rewarding!

Thats amazing!!
And a really great idea. Maybe when I'm recovered myself I'm going to look for some possibilities to do that in my own country.

It 's pretty funny to see that some can establish a link in character and color and some do not.
