Confining an injured ball of ZOOM

Wow, really? Could you possibly point me in the right direction regarding this?

I hesitate to tell you what to do, you really need to invest in some good physical therapy session where they will evaluate your pup and build specific program for your puppy. But here is how you can cut corners- there is tons of exercises for the balance and rear end awareness, once you confirm that they are good for your situation you can go at your own speed without paying high bills.
Problem with dog as with some horses they do not know they have back legs so they like some cars, totally front loaded. If you only have one side elbow affected you will also get weight shift to unaffected side so your dog will get out of balance on the front too. Water therapy, acupuncture, massage, passive and active stretching might be of help.
Rear end awareness will include, cavaletti work, or walking through ladder,
walking uphill, sit pretty, sit pretty to stand tall, walking on hind legs, stretch up to the wall to stand tall, walking backwards, walking backwards on the stairs, walking backwards through the ladder or over any other obstacle, balance disks, wobble boards. Even tugging will help if the dog knows how to tug and shifts weight to the rear. Separate paw lifts, targeting with back paws, osteogame where pup puts front paws on the chair and does sits - those are few I can come up with. Those are games that my dogs do just to stay fit.

Thankyou!

Feel free to advise away - this is my first dog, and we're only 2 months in. We do have some money to spend right away, the breeder gave us our money back ($1200) when we told her our situation and that we didn't want a replacement dog (we love her!!) so that is set aside for medical expenses, once I find someone nearby who specialises in physiotherapy. The rest will have to be saved up gradually.

You're a neighbour then! If you ever want to have a chat (or you are looking for training) I'm secretary at Belconnen Dog Club.

I thoroughly recommend Louise Steinman and Hally for animal physiotherapy. They are based in Bungendore but do several days each week at the Animal Emergency Centre in Fyshwick. We also see Sarah Webb the orthopeadic specialist at the Surgical Referral Service in Gunghalin - she did Deska's recent surgery - we have an annual checkup with her to see how the bones are progressing and if there is anything new to try. She has a specialist locum come in from Uni of Sydney (Craig) who is also great.

You didn't happen to go to the Dog Park recently and meet another sheltie with elbow problems? I was just chatting with Archie's mum about another young sheltie with elbow problems she met a the dog park.

Neighbours!

I was just about to email Belconnen Dog Club to start the search for local physios. You read my mind! Thanks for the info. Sarah Webb also practices at our local (Weston Creek) so I was led to believe by one of the vets there. The orthopaedic specialist we consulted with is in Parramatta.
