Connor is a superstar

Just a little brag here. My grandpuppyson Connor, a 5 year old blue merle sheltie, just passed his certification to do work in children's reading programs. He is now able to wear the vest for Therapeutic Paws of Canada. He already was certified to go into senior's residences were he is one of the favourites and now he will aid children learning to read. We are very proud of him and his human mother, our daughter.

That's terrific Joanne. I looked into them but they aren't in the Niagara area yet. The therapy dogs do such a wonderful work, both with children and adults. I am just waiting for word as to where Emma and I will be going on our therapy journey.

Did you know the original dog for TPOC was a Sheltie?

I didn't know that. I'll have to let Leigh know. When she was telling me about the testing procedures and got to the part were a bunch of kids are milling around or sitting on the floor eating, I said - there would be failure #1 with Tinsel. Then the kids all kind of swarm the dog making noises of glee and reaching out for petting. Connor took it all in like he usually does. He is a credit to both his breeder, Kellie Whiteside of Herdabout Shelties and his owner.

I really wanted to get in with them, but they don't have a team leader in the Niagara area. I was asked if I wanted to take on that role.

The founder of TPOC has another Sheltie ready to take on therapy work.

If you go to the home page, to supporters and volunteers, and then to our dogs, scroll down until you find Maggie.

Congratulations Tagg, sounds like your grandpuppyson has really made you proud. WTG Conner, job well done.

What is especially nice is that he is a beautiful example of his breed conformation wise, has enough drive that he has done many performance events including herding, agility and obedience, isn't a big barker unless he is chasing a ball, and now is able to be a help to those that need him. He also, to date, has had no health concerns and has passed screening on all fronts. I sent a congratulatory note to his breeder - one breeder to another - on a job well done.
