Coughing and gagging

I'd call the vet immediately, for peace of mind if nothing else...But it sure sounds like kennel cough. Stress (to a new environment, etc) can also cause a cough/sneezing fit or two, but if it persists on and off, kennel cough might be the culprit. Vax aren't 100% coverage, for humans, too, and there are varying strains, jsut as human illnesses have too.

Good luck, paws crossed!

Could be Kennel Cough but as others have said, do get a full vet check over inc. heart and lungs. Our Merlin had an excersize/excitement induced cough/gag since he was a puppy and despite many investigations, no cause for it was ever found. It did become more noticable with age but he led a full and active life and his heart was sound right to the end. We've just lost him at 16 so it made no difference to his health.

My Revel has occasinally had a few issues with the soft palete resulting in a sort or snorting/reverse sneeze but at 14 he's still running and walking with the other dogs and it's never been a problem for him either. His happened after being stationary rather than after activity.

Just wanted to chime in here....

Sansa is 3yo now and perfectly healthy (been to the vet, no issues) but 5 times out of 10, when she drinks water, she coughs and gags for a little afterward. She's done this since she was a puppy......not sure if it's because she drinks too much at once or what but's only when she drinks water.

Zulu does this too. Only with water. Apparently, it is not uncommon.
