SOBAD agility here in Ct. had a trial this weekend and from what was told to me it was cancelled by them because of yet another snow storm we are getting.Todd, one of the guys I train with said they do not get a refund on there entries.Has anyone ever heard of that or had it happen to them?I think it is odd you dont get a refund.

I know you're writing about CPE, but this is what most of my AKC premiums say:

REFUNDS
No entry fee will be refunded if the trial cannot open or be completed by reason of riots, civil disturbances, fire, an act of God, public emergency, act of a public enemy , weather or any other cause beyond the control of the organizing committee. No entry fee will be refunded in the event a dog is absent, disqualified, excused, or barred rom competition by the action of the Trial Committee. No entry fee will be refunded in the event a dog is injured after the closing of the trial. Bitches in season are not permitted to compete in Agility Trials. Bitches in season are not allowed on the show grounds. As such, the club will refund half of the entry fees per day for bitches unable to compete for this reason if the Trial Secretary recei

So, I know AKC basically won't give you your money back for any reason. Wonder what CPE says. I haven't seen a premium in a year. Hmm...just looked at it. This is from last June.

Looks like its the same thing. An act of God is weather, so there you go. I'm curious....what if you don't believe in God. Would weather then be an "act of God"? Hmm...j/k.

USDAA says the same thing, in case you were wondering.

Thanks Ashley for the info.I have never heard of this.I think it is wrong only I guess as it has never happened to me before.I think they should be entitled to some kind of refund even if it is only partial. With the crappy weather we are having it does not help.Already two buildings where Criterion Agility holds lessons have collapsed and a barn where trials are held had a partial collapse.

I agree--it's pretty ridiculous. I would guess that if things are canceled far enough in advance that the club might be kind enough to issue refunds...but I bet the problem is a lot of the costs (to the club) have to be paid up front: rental location, judge fees (hotel/flying them in), and food/catering costs, etc... Unless it could be canceled early enough to get rid of all those costs, I guess the club can't afford to take them on.

I know some people were really mad once when it rained at a trial of ours (outside). No refunds were issued, and dogs ran anyways.

This is a big part of it. Having not been directly involved with setting up a trial as the Trail Chair or Secretary, I've only picked up bits and pieces about the expenses related to hosting a trial. The biggest fees, next to air fare for a judge, for a host club is to the sanctioning body (CPE, TDAA, USDAA, etc.). These fees are non-refundable to the host clubs.

The sanctioning body is also responsible for the 'no refund' policy that shows up on the Premiums because the clubs use standardized forms for their Premiums and the sanctioning bodies have to approve the Premium before it can be released.

Considering the weather you guys are having out there, I think it sucks too. I mean, our biggest complaint is too much rain (and that's when I chose not to run), but it's nothing as dangerous as building collapsing, ice, snow, etc.

So, ITA that they should change it.....if they could. But I understand about all the "upfront fees" so I can understand why they do it that way too. Sigh.

The one reason I majorly dislike it, is because we can't predict the weather, and have to sign up so early. Yuck. Be safe out there everyone.
