Crate survey

So I am plotting and NO I WILL NOT BE MARKETING THEM

How long is your agility event crate in inches?
How tall in your crate?
Do you cover it?
Would a cover that only does the top and sides be useful?

Just plotting and of course this applies to flyball crates also. Thanks for feedback.

Well you've seen how small my dogs are so no point telling you how big their crates are, plus I gotta squeeze 3 in quite often. I go for the largest size I can carry as they do like to stretch out when they lay down.

I use fabric crates because I can't be stuffed carrying a big heavy metal one and my dogs don't wreck them. But if I had the money I'd buy a show trolley crate so I could shove everything in the crate and just wheel it around.

I don't cover, because my dogs love watching but the fabric ones do have flaps I can put them down if I want them to rest - it's the only time I'd cover the crate. And anyway I always have a towel with me I can use (we trial outside). My next project is to sew all Deska and Tully's ribbons onto one big towel and I'll use that as a cover.

But wait until you see what I'm sewing atm. Been working on it a while and my machine broke so I've purchased a new one. I am doing mini outdoor privacy screens for dogs! Don't tell anyone, don't want them pinching my idea (she says on a public forum). Kismet won't pee while we're out so I'm teaching her to pee behind the screen, and I figure I can also use the screen instead of a cover if I want to block them, so they still get a breeze in the crate and privacy as well. I'll post it when I finish. I want to start taking it to trials and comps to see if there's a market for them.

Well we have a big probably 3’ x 2’ soft sided crate and a smaller Piper sized soft crate. Blueberry usually gets the hard sided crate (not sure of the size but it’s at least twice her size…of course she hates it lol.
If you have a metal crate I’d always cover it, dogs need a break and you don’t need people talking to the dogs and such. Also you get visitors at shows that are just there to watch and some weirdo’s so best to cover.

I was contemplating making a custom crate cover as a gift. But am limited to 2' length. Then I could make it have grommets in the top for venting with the sides being printed......just plotting but I think 24" is not long enough for most crates.

It’s a good sized crate, probably 2’ wide x 3 feet long x 2 feet high. And for a smaller Sheltie like Piper it gave him lots of room! However I learned the hard way not to allow a puppy to stay in it unsupervised…Finnie chewed a hole in the screen (I fixed this by using gorilla tape and a screen replacement kit for tents).

Sca had a competition crate with all his patches and pins on it. Angus went through the door like a buzz saw in about 5 seconds. He truly was the eater of all things (sadly in the end also).
