Crawling with Fleas

Thank you, everyone! Is there such thing as a "green" flea bomb or extermination? I understand that we will need to evacuate and there will be considerable cleanup after, but I'm just concerned about the after effects of potentially hazardous chemicals. Does anyone know of a natural flea bomb product that has no health/environmental risks?

And frankly, if it's dangerous for your skin, then maybe it's not good for their skin either…

This is my whole problem with the flea topicals. We know that Frontline now doesn't work in a lot of areas. So we move to something stronger.

HELLO EVOLUTION. At what point will you say, "you know? that's too toxic to put on my dog."

I know, if it wasn't for the fact that Honey is allergic I'd use a much more natural method, but she was biting herself raw and starting to get sores. :(

You know what's crazy though? I don't see fleas ANYWHERE in the house except for on the dog. I've heard that people generally see fleas in the carpet or jumping everywhere, but I literally only see them on the dog.

I laughed out loud. Sorry. Bug bombs are poison... on purpose.

There isn't any cleanup after, there is no residue or dust or anything like that. I wiped down my counters afterwards, but that was it. If you are thinking that it leaves your house like a crime scene covered in powder, it doesn't.

I didn't see jumping fleas either, but I don't have carpet. The suckers were living somewhere though.

Back before flea meds were so common and we had fleas in the house, the only time I would notice them was when we'd get back from vacation and were wearing shorts, than they'd jump on you and bite, but generally they do prefer the dogs and cats.

There are a few ways to test it though. First one is put on white pants, with the bottom tucked into socks and walk around. Ideally if they are there, they will jump on you, and the white will allow you to see them before the jump off. The second is to put out a flea trap, where you fill a dish with soapy water and place it under a light overnight. The lights supposed to attract the fleas and they get trapped and die in the suds. Not actually effective at clearing out a house, but it should give you an indication of the level of infection.
